Quokka-winning hero Overpass has drawn an outside gate as he chases Western Australia’s other big feature sprint at Ascot on Saturday.

The Bjorn Baker-trained galloper will be attempting to give his trainer a third Group 1 success for 2023 when he starts from barrier 11 in the $1.5 million Winterbottom Stakes (1200m).

A field of 16 plus two emergencies was declared on Tuesday for the weight-for-age feature.

* Raw, emotional: Bjorn Baker as you’ve never seen him before

Overpass is the $2.50 favourite to claim the Winterbottom Stakes ahead of Lindsey Smith’s sharp performer Triple Missile at $5.50 after drawing the inside gate.

The two three-year-olds, Placid Ark Stakes winner and runner-up, Ripcord and Oscar’s Fortune are both at $9.

Ripcord will start from barrier 7 while Oscar’s Fortune jumps from gate 13.

Leading local older sprinter Hot Zed, the winner of the Group 3 Colonel Reeves Stakes and Snowdome, the Group 3 Prince Of Wales winner fared vastly different in the barrier draw.

Hot Zed is a $15 chance after drawing barrier 2 while Snowdome drew the outside barrier of 18 and is at $11.
