Smart filly Shesallshenanigans out to boost breeding value in Group 3 Quezette Stakes at Caulfield

Shesallshenanigans banked more than $750,000 for connections last season but the Simon Zahra-trained filly needs to complete another objective in Saturday’s Quezette Stakes at Caulfield.

Smart filly Shesallshenanigans will shoot for something just as important as prizemoney in Saturday’s Group 3 Quezette Stakes at Caulfield.

Shesallshenanigans was a revelation during the Melbourne autumn, winning three of four starts, including the VOBIS Gold Rush and The Showdown at her last two runs.

The Toronado filly banked more than $700,000 for those last two wins but those races were restricted to VOBIS Gold-qualified horses, meaning they had little impact on her breeding value.

Stakes wins are vital for any talented filly’s broodmare future value, especially during their two and three-year-old season, making the Quezette Stakes trophy highly sought after.

Shesallshenanigans went within a half-length of winning a Listed race in Adelaide last time in but trainer Simon Zahra said an improved version of the sprinter will resume on Saturday.

“She’s stakes-placed when she ran third in a Listed race in Adelaide and the form out of that race is good because the winner came out and won at Flemington,” Zahra said.

“She’s probably improved as a racehorse.

“She hasn’t grown much but she’s come on mentally.”

Zahra said the brief closure of the grass tracks at Flemington for winter maintenance slightly hindered Shesallshenanigans’ preparation but the three-year-old has performed well in two jumpouts.

However, Zahra said Shesallshenanigans would be a touch short of full fitness in the Quezette Stakes.

“Because the tracks were closed at Flemington, we had to give her a jumpout on the polytrack,” Zahra said

“We gave her another one last Friday and she probably had a bigger blow than I thought she would so we’re probably going in there a little bit underdone.

“She’s not wound up yet because we’re hoping she has a long spring.”

The Quezette Stakes has been a top guide to the future in previous years with winners Bella Nipotina (2020), Sunlight (2018), I Am A Star (2016) all progressing to win Group 1 races.

TAB has Shesallshenanigans at $15 in early ‘all-in’ betting on the Quezette Stakes.
