The Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman-trained miler firmed $8 into $6 with TAB on Friday.

The five-year-old gelding, a seven-time winner and $1.1m prizemoney earner, accounts for 25 per cent of the money wagered with TAB on the Winter Championship, second only to Munhamek with “daylight after that”.

While there are no significant big bets on Pounding, the galloper attracted “steady” money on Friday.

Pounding has raced well without the ultimate success the past five starts, including minor placings at Yarra Glen, Caulfield and Sandown.

He placed a luckless third at Caulfield two starts back, the same race Munhamek looked a good thing licked held up in traffic at a crucial stage.

Pounding placed second at Sandown last month, while Munhamek saluted at Swan Hill and Flemington.

“He was good last start, the start before he had no luck at all at Caulfield,” Moody said.

“Him and Munhamek ran in the same race and neither of them had any luck, they probably arguably should’ve won.”

A dry week, bar wintry morning frosts, has buoyed Moody about Pounding’s chance to go one better again on Saturday after being third and second the past two starts.

“It should be perfect (conditions), we’ve had no rain all week,” Moody said.

“He’s in good order, he goes there well.”

Moody has four starters at Flemington on Saturday, including first-starter Aldolfito in the Next Generations Sprinters Series Final (1200m), Red Mile in the Silver Bowl Series Final (1600m) and Paradise City in the Listed Creswick Sprint Series Final (1200m).
