Sunday’s spring preview meeting at Flemington with the Derby and Oaks Trials heading what shapes as tough program on a track were the rail is 14m out on a good surface with on pacers expected to be advantaged.

BEST BET

SNOW PATROL (Race 3 No. 1 – $2.50)

Impressive winning on debut at Sandown when forced to race wide throughout before powering through the line. Back to the same track and distance (1300m) and shocking watch behind Southport Tycoon when third and that horse finished a close second to Steparty in the Guineas Prelude yesterday. Speed map suits, barrier perfect, Damian Lane and trainer-jockey (Price/Kent/Lane) combination striking at 29%. Confident.

NEXT BEST

CRACKERJACK PRINCE (Race 6 No. 7 – $4.80)

Impressive when bolted in at Moonee Valley two runs back then no luck before hitting the line strongly there last time when fourth behind Hennessy Lad. Drawn to be a bit forward of midfield and with no great depth he’s going to prove terribly hard to hold out with clear air from the turn.

BEST VALUE

CYCLONE SALLY (Race 1 No. 1 – $12)

Looks a moderate tempo with Cyclone Sally gifted the lead and despite the big weight she’ll give a big sight for a long way. Winner two of her last three and Craig Newitt has a great association with the grey mare.

SUNSOURCE (Race 6 No. 1) – $13)

Won over this course and distance two runs back then six weeks off and back to 1519m at Moonee Valley under 60kg when far from disgraced working home nicely for fourth behind Ambassadorial. Meets that horse 3.5kg better this time and while the map not ideal as he’ll be back at the tail still having something on at the odds.
