News Corp Australia’s Editorial Director for Racing and Wagering, Daniel Sankey, takes a look at Thursday’s meeting at Mornington.

BEST BET

DEVILS DELIGHT (Race 8 No.2 – $2.80)

Phillip Stokes-trained Hellbent gelding who showed ability last preparation and crucially has performed well at Mornington in the past. Won a trial at Traralgon leading into this and the horse behind him won impressively at Sale on Christmas Eve. Looks well-placed.

NEXT BEST

MY NAME IS (Race 5 No.5 – $8.50)

First starter from a good yard and has been given plenty of time to mature. Three jumpouts leading into this have been excellent. Looks a lovely each-way play.

VALUE BET

GRAND TOURAINE (Race 9 No.13 – $10)

Did some work to find the lead from a wide gate at this track last time out and was entitled to tire late. Still only beaten 2.75 lengths and gets a much easier lead from the good draw today.

THE JOCKEY

BEAU MERTENS
MIKAZUKI (Race 3 – $6.50), CHECK YOUR SIX (Race 4 – $16), SHAIME (Race 6 – $1.75), DEGREEOFDIFFICULTY (Race 8 – $6), FRIDAY AT FIVE (Race 9 – $7)
