My Xanadu out to stay unbeaten for Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman at Caulfield on Saturday

My Xanadu’s dam Lights Of Heaven set an example for the debut winner to follow when the three-year-old filly attempts to stay unbeaten at Caulfield on Saturday.

My Xanadu’s dam blazed the ideal trail for the filly to follow after Saturday’s Caulfield assignment.

My Xanadu is out of Group 1 winner Lights Of Heaven, who won a Group 1 race at her fourth start when the mare claimed the Australasian Oaks in Adelaide.

Trainers Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman could set a similar task for My Xanadu if she runs well in the Rod Fenwick Handicap (1600m) at Caulfield.

The Fastnet Rock filly won on debut over 1212m at Geelong last month but will step up to 1600m at Caulfield.

The Brisbane Winter Carnival program would fall in perfectly for My Xanadu, with the Group 3 Roses over 2000m a possible target for the filly on May 25 before the Group 1 Queensland Oaks on June 8 at her fourth start.

“She’s a filly that we’ve always had a nice opinion of her,” Coleman said.

“She’s a filly that we thought was always going to want a trip and that’s what she showed first-up.

“She didn’t have a huge turn of foot there. We’ll just have a throw at the stumps and see if we can get her to Queensland as well.”

Moody and Coleman are likely to aim Wednesday’s Sandown winner Tacumwah at the Brisbane three-year-old fillies’ features.

Coleman said the jump to 1600m would suit My Xanadu at Caulfield but drawing barrier 10 required the stable to work out its tactics with the valuable filly.

“She’s drawn a bit awkwardly on Saturday so we’ll just have a good look at the race,” Coleman said.

“She’s a big strong girl and I think it will help her. She’s still athletic but she’s still a nice big filly. We might just have to get back and ride her for a little bit of luck.”

Linda Meech will ride My Xanadu as well as her stablemate Bridal Waltz in the Catanach’s Jewellers Handicap (1000m).

Bridal Waltz is a sister to the stable’s smart sprinting filly She Dances and has impressed connections with her jumpouts leading into her debut.

“She’s very professional and trialled up very well,” Coleman said.

“She’s shown good speed and she’s very similar to She Dances. She’s drawn barrier 10 as well so we’ll have a look at it.

“It might not be the worst thing if she can begin cleanly. She might be able to come across the field but if it looks like it’s going to be too hard we might save her for another day.”

Bridal Waltz is a $6.50 favourite to win on debut while TAB rated My Xanadu a $16 chance to stay unbeaten at Caulfield.
