Memsie Stakes field: Pride Of Jenni and Mr Brightside lead the way

Star performers Pride Of Jenni and Mr Brightside will clash when Group 1 racing returns in Victoria on Saturday with Caulfield hosting the Memsie Stakes.

Two of Australia’s best Pride Of Jenni and Mr Brightside headline Saturday’s $750,000 Group 1 Memsie Stakes at Caulfield.

The two superstars will face off against six rivals in the weight-for-age contest over 1400m.

In the autumn Mr Brightside lowered Pride Of Jenni’s colours over this track and trip when the duo clashed first-up but since then the mare’s stocks have risen and she heads into the 2024/25 season as Australia’s highest rated horse.

Kiwi Group 1 performer Aegon, PB Lawrence Stakes winner Gentleman Roy, and Group 2 weight-for-age winners Pinstriped and Antino add further interest to the contest.

Supporting the Memsie Stakes on the card are another four black-type races.

The Group 3 Heath 1100 will this year be known as the Vale Black Caviar (1100m).

Other Group 3 races on the program are the McNeill Stakes (1200m) for the three-year-old colts and geldings and the Cockram Stakes (1200m) for the three-year-old fillies.

The Listed Heatherlie Stakes (1700m) will also be held.

The Caulfield track was rated a good (4) at acceptance time. The rail will be in the true position on Saturday.

Saturday’s nine-race program commences at 12.05pm with the final event to be run at 5.20pm.
