Luke Oliver chasing rich bonuses with debut winner Do It Now at Caulfield

The lure of a potential cash bonus was enough to convince Cranbourne trainer Luke Oliver to test impressive debut winner Do It Now in city class at Caulfield on Saturday.

The task isn’t easy but Cranbourne trainer Luke Oliver has to take his last chance to have a shot at rich bonuses at Caulfield on Saturday.

Oliver trains debut winner Do It Now, who will take on a handy line-up of three-year-old fillies in the Stow Storage Solutions Handicap (1100m).

The race carries $150,000 in prizemoney but will also be Do It Now’s last chance to collect $30,000 in VOBIS scheme bonuses for connections before she turns four.

Early Oil: Race-by-race preview for Caulfield on Saturday

“It’s the last Saturday of her being three so we’re tempted to roll the dice,” Oliver said.

Do It Now is a $23 chance in early betting but Oliver said rain would assist the Bel Esprit filly, who won in soft ground at Wangaratta on June 20.

“She’s a half-sister to Justdoit, who won at Sandown last Wednesday, so we’re hoping it will be a wet track,” Oliver said.

“She’s shown that she loves the ground.

“She’s definitely a good wet tracker.”

Do It Now will give away race experience to all of her Caulfield rivals but Oliver said a light weight, in addition to wet ground could help her offset that disadvantage.

“She’s definitely a Saturday class wet tracker but because she’s so lightly-raced, she gets in well at the weights,” Oliver said.

“Everything that has had the whole three-year-old season is up and rated 70 so we get a lot of weight off them.

“I think she’s up to them but we’ll find out.”

Spring preview: Carnival targets for Price-Kent Jr stable stars

Former Sydney filly Kundalini, who will debut for the Grahame Begg stable after previously racing for the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace camp, has firmed from $3.20 to a $3 favourite.

Kundalini has not raced since finishing fourth in a Listed race in Sydney last spring but has form around the likes of Group 1 performers Joliestar and Learning To Fly in her four starts to date.

Craig Newitt will ride Do It Now at Caulfield.

Interestingly, Newitt also won on Do It Now’s dam, the former Mick Price-trained stakes winner Das Machen, in a race at Sandown in March 2009.
