Herald Sun form analyst Chris Vernuccio gives his four-play $200 betting strategy and detailed quaddie selections for The Valley on Saturday.

FOUR-PLAY

RACE 4: BM84 HANDICAP (1600m)

$50 win RUNNING BY at $2.25

Was expecting her to run in Sydney again in an easier race but the stable has decided to go to The Valley. She’s still a clear top pick here after toying with her rivals last start at Randwick over 1500m. The four-year-old mare can lead or find the leader’s back from barrier one.

RACE 8: BENCHMARK 78 (1700m)

$50 win PHILOSOPHER at $4.40

The four-year-old is three from three as gelding, which includes an easy last-start win at the track and distance. He stays in Benchmark 78 grade and should dictate the tempo again.

RACE 9: GROUP 2 AUSTRALIA STAKES (1200m)

$50 win RECOMMENDATION at $3.60

His price firmed from $4.60 to $3.60 on Thursday afternoon. The four-year-old is racing in great form and has fitness and experience over favourite Veight and Southport Tycoon, and is more effective on a firm track.

RACE 10: BENCHMARK 78 (1200m)

$50 win PEREILLE at $2.40

The Godolphin sprinter has also been scratched from Randwick. He resumed with a tidy second at Rosehill and is a track and distance winner. Tricky map for him but Damian Lane knows how to win from a wide barrier at The Valley.

QUADZILLA

LEG 1 – RACE 7

MISS TARZY (3) has won all three starts this prep by decent margins, the last two at the track and distance. Good tracks have been the key to her winning form. FRETTA (7) won her first two starts in December before she was beaten at odds-on at Geelong but the step up in distance can see her bounce back. INTERLINKED (10) also kicked off his career with a pair of wins and can also measure up despite tasting defeat for the first at Flemington last start.

FIRST LEG: 3, 7, 10

LEG 2 – RACE 8

PHILOSOPHER (1) is unbeaten in three starts this prep and led all the way to win with ease at the track and distance in his latest run last month. The form out of that race has stacked up with runner-up Wolflands winning in SA and third horse Twin Perfection finishing a close second to Rey Magnerio at Geelong. MORNINGTON GLORY (5) returned to the winner’s stall at Flemington last week after dropping back to the 1000m. SHIRSHOV (2) also excels over the short trip and has won four of his past five including a 955m Benchmark 84 at The Valley last start.

SECOND LEG: 1, 2, 5

LEG 3 – RACE 9

RECOMMENDATION (3) has been unplaced just once in 10 starts over the past 10 months, and has an outstanding record at 1200m (8:4-2-1) which includes a Group 3 win in February. VEIGHT (8) won over 1200m first-up last prep and ran a commendable fifth in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes after finishing second in the Caulfield Guineas. The three-year-old colt looks ready to take the next step this campaign. SOUTHPORT TYCOON (11) has trialled well for his second prep. He went from a maiden to the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas in just four starts, and was narrowly beaten by Steparty in the Guineas Prelude.

THIRD LEG: 3, 8, 11

LEG 4 – RACE 10

PEREILLE (6) ran second in his return behind smart galloper Union Army at Rosehill, and won at the track and distance last campaign. It’s an open race outside the favourite. JENNY JEROME (9) pulled up lame at Flemington last start after an eye-catching return at the track. She finished ahead of DANNY’S ST DARCI (4), who is building to a win after she was best of the rest against classy Va Via at Geelong last time out. SHOVE OVER (10) returned in good order, ZOU SENSATION (8) will give a sight out in front and BELLINGER (2) drops down in grade.

FOURTH LEG: 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 10

Cost $100 for 61.72%

SKINNY QUADDIE

Sticking with the top three in the market in the first leg – MISS TARZY (3), FRETTA (7) and INTERLINKED (10). Two selections in both the second – PHILOSOPHER (1) and MORNINGTON GLORY (5) – and third legs – RECOMMENDATION (3) and VEIGHT (8) – and will be bold in the last by taking PEREILLE (6) one out.

First leg: 3, 7, 10

Second leg: 1, 5

Third leg: 3, 8

Fourth leg: 6

Cost $100 for 833.33%
