Four-Play, Quadzilla: $200 betting strategy for Caulfield

There are some good each-way plays at Caulfield, a good roughie to have something on in Adelaide, while we have a crack at finding the ever elusive quaddie.

National Racing Editor Matt Williams gives his four-play $200 betting strategy and detailed quaddie selections for Caulfield on Saturday.

FOUR-PLAY

RACE 3 CAULFIELD

$50 win OUR RED MORNING at $4.80

This mare has always had plenty of ability and her first-up run showed she’s in for a good preparation. Settling a long way back at Mornington, she made solid ground in the last 200m behind Talbragar who ran a good race here last week in the wrong part of the track. Drawn to get a smother. Just needs luck.

RACE 4 CAULFIELD

$25 each-way KNUCKLEBONES at $6.50

Looks a really progressive Savabeel filly. Love the way she hit the line to win first-up at Cranbourne and she can go on with the job out to the mile. The horse she beat, The Shaper, won here last week so the form is solid. The 3kg claim for Ryan Houston gets her in with only 51kg.

RACE 5 CAULFIELD

$25 each-way HOOPS at $7.50

Should be primed for a peak performance fourth-up after going over to win in Adelaide last start. Gets in with 51kg after the claim for Jaylah Kennedy, which will be beneficial out to the 2400m. She’ll settle back, but will run on strongly.

RACE 8 MORPHETTVILLE

$25 each-way STRETAN ANGEL at $26

Big run in the Robert Sangster when she was up punching the breeze three-wide on speed to be beaten less than three lengths. She’s drawn to get some cover on Saturday where she can let rip with only 52½kg on her back.

QUADZILLA

LEG 1 – RACE 7

An even race to kick off the quaddie with a few winning chances. MISS ARIA (2) and FLOOZIE (11) come out of the same race in Adelaide and have to be respected. BOSSY NIC (1) has class and can’t be left out. FRAGILE LOVE (6) is racing well and can make her presence felt while NODACHI (9) is a smokey at good odds from a nice barrier.

FIRST LEG: 1, 2, 6, 9, 11

LEG 2 – RACE 8

BANK MAUR (5) has been knocking on the door for a win this prep and he gets another chance here. There is good speed in this race so he should find a position from his wide gate. KING MAGNUS (2) ran really well last start, and he excels second-up. EDISON (6) will give a bold sight again. SHOCK ‘EM OVA (11) is an enormous talent and he can win first-up. DEVOTED (8) had no luck whatsoever first-up and is a big improver. SAVANNAH CLOUD (3) is very honest.

SECOND LEG: 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 11

Frigid wins at Mornington.

LEG 3 – RACE 9

FRIGID (6) just about picks herself. Dominant winner last time, and she looks very hard to beat again. PAPILLON CLUB (8) has been racing well, and has to be considered. FARHH FLUNG (10) ran second to Frigid last time making solid ground so he has to be given a chance. MR MOJO RISIN’ (4) comes back to Australia after winning his last two starts in New Zealand in good style. FURIOUS (14) didn’t have much luck at Flemington last time, and is a sneaky chance. VALLEY KING (13) is an interesting runner from an astute stable.

THIRD LEG: 4, 6, 8, 10, 13, 14

LEG 4 – RACE 10

PRANCING SPIRIT (16) had no luck last time and can atone here if he gets the breaks. CARDIGAN QUEEN (6) is always around the mark in a race like this, and she goes well first-up. END ASSEMBLY (14) was a forgive first-up and has to be given a winning chance. UMGAWA (1) has form around some decent horses and he can run a race while WILLIAM THOMAS (18) can run well at big odds from a nice draw if he gets a run.

FOURTH LEG: 1, 6, 14, 16, 18

SKINNY QUADDIE

MISS ARIA (2) and FLOOZIE (11) can kick us off in the opener. Going with BANK MAUR (5), EDISON (6) and SHOCK ‘EM OVA (11) in the second leg, FRIGID (6) and PAPILLON CLUB (8) in the third leg, while CARDIGAN QUEEN (6) and PRANCING SPIRIT (16) can get us home in the last leg.

FIRST LEG: 2, 11

SECOND LEG: 2, 5, 6, 11

THIRD LEG: 6, 8, 14

FOURTH LEG: 6, 16
