The Everest-winning trainer Clayton Douglas might not be too popular with punters if he adds to his haul of Warrnambool features in Wednesday’s Wangoom Handicap.
Douglas hit the highest of highs at Warrnambool during his riding career,
He won the gruelling Grand Annual Steeplechase twice as well as a Brierly Steeplechase along with several non-feature wins on the flat.
“It’s been a good carnival for me,” Douglas said.

Douglas said Warrnambool had provided him with his career highlights before the arrival of brilliant sprinter Giga Kick, who took the young trainer to glory in The Everest in 2022.
“They were two different feelings to go through but before Giga came along, the Annual was the most amazing thing of all time, especially to win two,” Douglas said.
“The old man won three Annuals so he’s still got the wood on me there. But I’ve won an Everest so I’ll take that.”
But TAB rated Douglas as a $71 chance to pull off a Wangoom win with recent stable acquisition Blondeau.
Blondeau won five of 36 starts for premier Sydney trainer Chris Waller before Douglas bought the son of I Am Invincible at an online auction.

Douglas only has a jumpout at Sandown to assess Blondeau’s progress.
“He trialled at Sandown and went really well,” Douglas said.
“I don’t really know a lot about him but he seems pretty straightforward.
“We’ll take the blinkers off for the Wangoom and try something different but it’s probably not going to be as wet as what we would have liked by the sound of it.
“His form is good enough for soft ground but he’s got really good wet track form.”
Craig Newitt will ride Blondeau in the Wangoom Handicap.
