FIVE TO FOLLOW:

DIWALI Won a Moe BM58 before stepping up several levels to BM84 level at Caulfield. He travelled well until it was time to improve from the 700m but was tightened at the 500m, causing him to lose his position at the crucial time. He was held up again on the home turn before building momentum to be a length from the winner on the line. He can win again in something a touch easier in the coming weeks.

TERILEE Punters should forget the Mick Kent-trained filly went around at Caulfield. She easily won her maiden on the Caulfield Heath track last month and jumped in class for her second outing. She jumped awkwardly and did a few things wrong in the middle stages of the race. Terilee started to improve on the home turn but never got clear in the straight and went to the line untested. She can bounce back soon.

ENERGETIC LEGEND Energetic Legend had his first run for eight weeks at Caulfield and was far from disgraced. The Hawkes Racing-trained three-year-old was rising in class and found himself tracking a good speed to the home turn. The son of So You Think chased well behind the eventual winner Mary Eliza from the home turn until peaking on his run late. He’ll be much fitter for that and could post a win soon.

RUAKAKA RAIDER Staying prospect that made an excellent return to racing over 1600m. He had two quiet jumpouts before his first-up effort in Benchmark 84 level and was ridden quietly this time. He relaxed well near the tail of the field before running on well out wide in the last 2000m. He’ll race closer over longer trips and looks set for a good campaign.

TALBRAGAR Resumes after a one-start spring campaign and did a good job. He showed good early speed to race behind a smart early pace to the home turn. Talbragar was in contention until fading in the last 150m in only his second run in 11 months. He’ll improve significantly with the outing and has a good record on soft tracks. He’ll pinch a race or two during the winter.

PLEASE FORGIVE:

FREIGHT TRAIN (Unplaced Race 3): Beaten $3.50 favourite but didn’t have the clearest passage in the last 500m of his assignment. Stewards noted he was held up a couple of times in the straight and raced in restricted room late. It was his first try at 2000m and he’ll be better at his next attempt.

SIRIUS STATEMENT (Unplaced Race 5): Started as the $3.40 favourite but had no luck when caught three-wide for the entire trip despite drawing barrier five. The wide run meant Sirius Statement had to get tired in the straight. Jockey Jamie Mott told steward Sirius Statement might need a break while trainer Gavin Bedgoood said he would freshen the gelding.

WINNASEDGE (Second Race 9): Started as the $5 second pick and gave a great sight for his backers until he was grabbed late. The three-year-old drew wide so jockey Rhys McLeod sent him forward to race handy to a smart speed to the home turn. Winnasedge fought on gamely but was grabbed late but his older rival Prancing Spirit. He’s worth another chance.

STEWARDS SAY:

SAVOIR FAIRE (Unplaced Race 2) – Rider Luke Cartwright said the gelding failed to run out the 2400m.

GRID GIRL (Fourth Race 5) – Held up for clear running from the home turn until the 300m.

CINEMATIC STAR (Unplaced Race 5) – Held up from the 400m until the 200m.

SUPERNIMA (Fourth Race 6) – Supernima held up from the 400m to the 250m.

OCEAN BEYOND (Third Race 7) – Held up from the 400m to the 150m.
