Best bets and value plays for Makybe Diva Stakes day at Flemington

A positive first-up second could lead to a win in the last race for a talented Kiwi mare while Cranbourne trainer Enver Jusufovic will attempt to keep his Group 1 fairytale going at Flemington.

News Corp form analyst Brad Waters takes an early look at Saturday’s Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes meeting at Flemington.

BEST BET

POSITIVITY (Race 10, No. 11)

Positivity just missed at Caulfield first-up but will be much fitter for that and could easily go one better on the bigger Flemington track.

VALUE BET

VOW AND DECLARE (Race 5, No. 1)

Vow And Declare chased well when resuming under 62kg at Caulfield. Jumping in trip and getting back to Flemington will boost his chances on Saturday.

RACE 1: 12.10PM TAB WE’RE ON (1100m)

Big field to start Makybe Diva Stakes Day but ZOURION (12) has trialled sharply and drops a long way in class on her previous Australian runs. SPARKLING (16) is unbeaten this time in and could handle the class rise. NADAL (3) is resuming from a decent spell but has the class to fire fresh. BARAQIEL (1) showed is a talented sprinter that can fire fresh.

SUGGESTED BET: Zourion each-way

RACE 2: 12.40PM LISTED EXFORD PLATE (1400m)

Tricky race despite the small field. DETROIT CITY (3) impressed over this course before a break and trialled well enough at Stawell leading up to this. DAGGERS (2) has been too good from the front in his two runs to date and should be around the mark again. WONDER BOY (1) looks ready for this trip after two solid efforts at Caulfield. DAWN SERVICE (5) is a developing type that should also be in this for a long way.

SUGGESTED BET: Detroit City to win.

RACE 3: 1.15PM LISTED CAP D’ANTIBES STAKES (1100m)

Another open race but TOBEORNOTTOBE (3) appeals first-up with form around Hayasugi last time in and a strong Cranbourne jumpout. DRIFTING (1) will be fitter for a fighting first-up win at Caulfield last time out. KHADIME (13) will be better for a promising maiden campaign and trialled well at Bendigo. OVERFULL (5) is a speedy Gold Coast filly that can show something at her Melbourne debut.

RACE 4: 1.50PM LISTED POSEIDON STAKES (1100m)

GROWING EMPIRE (1) was utterly dominant with his first-up win in the McNeil Stakes and can continue on his winning ways here. AARDVARK (5) is a Flemington straight winner and has shown enough at the jumpouts. NDOLA (9) has had a month between runs but impressed at Sandown last time out. STAY FOCUSED (6) can improve on his first-up third.

SUGGESTED BET: Exacta 1/5, 6, 9.

RACE 5: 2.30PM GROUP 3 ARCHER STAKES (2500m)

A Melbourne Cup start is up for grabs in the Archer Stakes. VOW AND DECLARE (1) is always reliable in this type of race and will be fitter for a solid first-up effort at Caulfield. BERKSHIRE BREEZE (6) raced well during the winter and has the quality to threaten off a six-week break. MOSTLY CLOUDY (4) is an honest type that is never far away in this class. DASHING DUCHESS (7) is racing in great form and is worth including.

SUGGESTED BET: Vow And Declare each-way.

TAB MARKET MOVER: Point King $5 – $3.80.

RACE 6: 3.05PM LISTED VALE BLACK CAVIAR (1400m)

Possibly the hardest race of the day but PROMISES KEPT (15) could produce a surprise first-up from barrier two after a couple of good trials. EL ROCKO (17) steps up in class but will be fitter than most of these and chased home the smart Craig at Caulfield. BANDERSNATCH (2) has drawn poorly but drops in class on two good efforts to start his campaign. MAKRAM (7) shocked first-up last time in and has the talent to surprise again.

SUGGESTED BET: Small each-way Promises Kept.

TAB MARKET MOVER: Nicolini Vito $6.50 – $5.

RACE 7: 3.40PM GROUP 2 LET’S ELOPE STAKES (1400m)

RUNNING BY (10) has a tricky gate but there was a lot to like about her first-up win at Caulfield from which she drops 4.5kg and will be much fitter. CASTE (16) is looking for more ground after two sound runs over 1200m at Caulfield. RUMBLED AGAIN (13) drops 5kg on a good first-up effort and she was Group 2-placed last time in. QUINTESSA (1) will be fitter for her first-up win while 1400m suits.

SUGGESTED BET: Running By to win.

TAB MARKET MOVER: Running By $8 – $6.

RACE 8: 4.20PM GROUP 1 MAKYBE DIVA STAKES (1600m)

Terrific edition of the event with event with seven of the eight runners already Group 1 winners. PINSTRIPED (2) won the Memsie Stakes fair and square at Caulfield and is worth thought again with his slight fitness edge. MR BRIGHTSIDE (1) lost no admirers first-up and will be improved. VIA SISTINA (8) charged home to score in Sydney first-up and should enjoy 1600m. ATISHU (7) loves Flemington and can improve sharply on her first-up run.

SUGGESTED BET: Flexi box trifecta 1, 2, 6, 7, 8

TAB MARKET MOVER: Mr Brightside $4 – $3.10.

RACE 9: 4.55PM GROUP 2 BOBBIE LEWIS QUALITY (1200m)

SANS DOUTE (12) loves the Flemington straight and will be fitter for her strong third behind subsequent Group 1 winner Mornington Glory at The Valley. BENEDETTA (2) is one of the class runners in this line-up and has an excellent straight record. STRETAN ANGEL (11) won down the straight last spring and should go close fresh. RIGHT TO PARTY (9) impressed during the winter and trialled well at Cranbourne.

SUGGESTED BET: Sans Doute to win.

RACE 10: 5.25PM RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE CHARITIES TROPHY (1700m)

POSITIVITY (11) can end the day on a high for punters with the natural improvement gained from a promising first-up second at Caulfield. SHAIYHAR (16) has won a couple at Flemington and could show up fresh. BERKELEY SQUARE (6) will be better for his first-up run at Caulfield. KEATS (7) could roll along in front and give them something to chase.

SUGGESTED BET: Positivity to win.
