Apprentice Jaylah Kennedy has again mastered the Sandown Hillside track with another double at the open venue.

Kennedy rode a double at the last midweek meeting held on the circuit on May 15 before repeating the effort in Saturday grade.

Kennedy drew praise from her master Dan O’Sullivan for her patient handling of $3.70 favourite Matriarch Rose in the Stow Storage Solutions Handicap (1600m).

“It was a very heady ride because she (Kennedy) waited as long as she could,” O’Sullivan said.

The young Kiwi later steered home Hard To Cross for former star jockey Patrick Payne in the Tile Importer Handicap.

Flying filly has a future

Heinous upstaged more fancied opposition to win the Two-Year-Old Handicap (1000m) at Sandown from the fast-finishing Flattered.

Favourite She’s Got Pizzazz had every chance behind a genuine tempo and sliced through at the 200m but was no match for Heinous, who let down strongly third-up down the middle of the track.

First-starter Esraar led to the home turn but tired out of contention under pressure.

Heinous’ trainer Jason Warren said the daughter of Brutal could head to Queensland for a stakes race if the right opportunity appeared.

Mighty Miss notches second successive win

Miss Aria defied a tough run to mow down Apache Song in the 1400m 3YO Benchmark 78 at Sandown and secure back-to-back wins in the process.

The Danny O’Brien-trained filly settled worse than midfield and was posted wide around the bend on straightening but sustained a mighty effort under apprentice jockey Tatum Bull.

“When I gave her one around the tail she really lifted and God she was strong through the line, it’s pretty exciting,” Bull said.

“I feel like today has a bit more credit to it (than Caulfield win last start) because she did have it tough, I didn’t set her an easy task and most horses would’ve laid down.

“Good horses get you out of trouble and she did that for me today.”

Proof in Pudding

South Australian trainers Richard and Chantelle Jolly made it consecutive Saturday winners in Melbourne with another border hopper.

Pudding, expertly handled by Zac Spain, who sealed a Sandown double with the win, led all the way to claim the 1800m Benchmark 100 from Highlights and Smokin’ Romans.

The father-daughter Jolly duo saddled Losesomewinmore for a victory at Flemington last Saturday.

Spain didn’t expect to lead on Saturday on Pudding but with no else prepared to take up the running he took matters into his own hands, dictated the race and got the job done.

Highlights hit a flat spot midway down the straight behind a dawdling tempo but got motivated late to charge into second.
