Mornington trainer Shane Nichols is plotting another upset with talented filly Brazen Style in Saturday’s $1m Inglis Sprint.

Brazen Style, with the aid of a perfect frontrunning ride from jockey Craig Newitt, won the Group 3 Thoroughbred Club Stakes (1200m) at $51 during the spring.

TAB rated Brazen Style an $18 chance to notch her third win from five starts in the Flemington feature.

Nichols said the Brazen Beau filly was in the best shape of her life after her solid first-up third behind Inglis Sprint second favourite Estriella in the Group 3 Kevin Hayes Stakes at Caulfield.

“She’s in really good nick,” Nichols said.

“She’s as good as I’ve had her in her life.”

Brazen Style raced in her usual position near the lead in the Kevin Hayes Stakes but was unable to withstand Estriella’s late charge over 1100m.

Nichols said getting back to 1200m would keep Brazen Style in her comfort zone for longer.

“We tried to get further out on the track where you needed to be at Caulfield but couldn’t,” Nichols said.

“But the 1100(m) just has her at her top for longer and from further out but she’ll be much better off over 1200m at her second run.

“I think she’s a good each-way chance without getting ahead of ourselves.”

Nichols is also likely to debut two-year-old filly Always Enuff in the Listed Furphy Trophy (1000m).

Always Enuff has won her last two jumpouts at Mornington but convinced Nichols to give her a Flemington debut with her gallop on Tuesday morning.

“She’s still a bit new but galloped really well on Tuesday morning,” Nichols said.

“She can run Saturday because if she runs well, there’s another stakes race in the third week of March that would be suitable for her.

“I don’t think it’s going to be a vintage stakes race because there’s only a couple that have won.”
