Timeform expert Gary Crispe thinks I Wish I Win is poised to avenge his luckless defeat last year by winning Saturday’s 2024 The Everest.

I Wish I Win is poised to produce a career-best sprinting performance and avenge a luckless defeat in the same race 12 months ago when he lines up in the $20 million The TAB Everest (1200m) at Royal Randwick on Saturday.

This is the opinion of form genius Gary Crispe who has used his exclusive Timeform ratings to select I Wish I Win as the horse to beat in The Everest.

“I Wish I Win is perfectly placed,” Crispe declared.

Last year, an inside barrier beat him in The Everest when he was held up for a run in the straight but this time he has drawn out (barrier nine) which I feel suits him.

“He shouldn’t get into any trouble during the race and will find clear galloping room in the straight.

“He has a great record third-up, the blinkers are back on and all the signs are he is ready to run up to his best.”

Crispe said I Wish I Win, who has a lofty Timeform rating of 126, would improve sharply off his two comeback runs at The Valley this spring and go close to that peak figure in The Everest.

“If he runs up to his best rating, it should be enough to win The Everest, or at the very least, he will certainly be in the finish,” Crispe said.

Crispe had the Chris Waller-trained Joliestar as the main danger for The Everest.

Joliestar is coming off an indifferent effort in the Sheraco Stakes when third to Sunshine In Paris but Crispe said if the mare could repeat her first-up Show County Quality win then she would make a race of it with I Wish I Win.

“Her first-up win over The Everest course and distance was enormous,” Crispe said. “She’s drawn to get the right run (barrier four) and is going to run very well.”

Bella Nipotina has drawn the outside barrier in the 12-horse field but Crispe maintained the mare was still right in the race.

“There hasn’t been much between Bella Nipotina and I Wish I Win in their recent clashes,” Crispe said.

“Her wide barrier is a bit of a concern but, a bit like I Wish I Win, I can see her getting to the outside and finishing strongly.”

Crispe felt Growing Empire was the best of the three-year-olds and rated the in-form mare Sunshine In Paris as the value runner of The Everest.
