SCONE INSIDE MAIL

RACE 1: 2yo Maiden Handicap (1200m)
PHOTOGRAPH (12), the granddaughter of Mnemosyne, was tipped out after her two fourths at her opening campaign, one of them at Canterbury over 1200m. Trials have been first-rate. Go well. TORN (7), the Brett Cavanough local, is back home after ‘failed’ visits to Doomben (a Group 2) and Rosehill (behind Emirate). Expect sharp improvement here. CALIDO MAGIC (8) made up a huge amount of ground here on a leader- bias track. Alfred has trialled like he has ability.
BET: Photograph to win, quinella 7,12. box trifecta 1,7,8,12.

RACE 2: 2yo Maiden Handicap (1200m)
BARTOLF (3) could be the horse to get the new training partnership of John O’Shea and Tom Charlton off to the perfect start. Born and raised at/retained by Segenhoe, this handsome son of So You Think has trialled like he will make it to a high level. BOOM SMASH OPERA (4)’s third dam is Songline (the mother of Sunline). This Edward Cummings-trained colt has trialled up in very encouraging fashion. JUHVATI (12) could/should be strong late.
BET: Bartolf to win, exacta 3 to beat 4.

RACE 3: 3yo Maiden Handicap (1600m)
BUFFETT (2) finally showed what he has with that last start second at Wyong to the handy Evenflow. That was his first time to the mile and we note that he has Noble Bijou and Mellay on his dam-side so he’ll run 2000m soon enough. VIVEZZA (1) only missed a place once in five starts and that was a fourth on the Kensington. Don’t like the 60kgs but she has a good draw. LOST ILLUSIONS (7) and FORT DENISON (5) are the two ‘looking for 1600m’.
BET: Buffett to win or if scratched Fort Denison to place.

RACE 4: 3yo+ Class 1 Plate (1700m)
PIER PRESSURE (11)’s past four runs (after finishing second at Warwick Farm) were in two Listed races, a Group 2 and a Group 3 away in Brisbane. Go back to her two-year-old days and she was placed in the Sires’ to Militarize. She drops all the way back to a Class 1 & Maiden on Tuesday. She picks herself but she still has to run the trip. FLYBALL (6) is a mere 1 from 14 but he is certain to run the 1700m and is going to relish the big track. FERNAO (3) is a major player.
BET: Pier Pressure to win, Flyball to place.

RACE 5: Midway Maiden Plate (1200m)
LADY ICHIKAWA (7) is a Sam Kavanagh-trained mare who finished ‘453’ respectively at her first preparation in the spring last year. Nothing in any of those races hit the line with more purpose than her. Finds the perfect race first-up. ALVINA’S LUCK (3) has placed at five of her seven runs, all of them at the provincials. She has a winning draw on Tuesday if she is good enough to convert. CLASSIC POETRY (4) is ‘242’ in her runs for Nathan Doyle and handles the Heavy.
BET: Lady Ichikawa to win, exacta 7 to beat 3.

RACE 6: Maiden Plate (1300m)
EVERYBODY RISE (12) is nominated for a Super Maiden at Kembla on Thursday which is significant given this epic blueblood drew 12 of 12 in this. Long story short, he is very likely the best horse in the race, even as a 2YO. Irish-bred MONTY BE QUICK (5) was $2.20 into $1.65 at the Australian debut at Hawkesbury. Raced keen and held up was the stewards verdict. PRESIDES (6) and MYSTERIO (9) are going to appreciate every inch of the 1300m.
BET: Everybody Rise to win or if scratched Monty Be Quick to win.

RACE 7: Class 1 Handicap (1600m)
RAPT (8) has a win and six placings from her 11 starts as well as a couple of fourths, one of them to Panic, one of them here on Scone Cup day. This is Scone of course but 12 of 12 is still the outside barrier. Can’t fault her though. LET’S GO JOHNNY (3) was very close behind Rapt when they placed behind Gallic Fox at Newcastle. This son of Dissident has shown a penchant for Heavy thus far. Almost impossible to split the Nathan Doyle pairing COASTAL GROOVE (2) and IRISH BLISS (1).
BET: Rapt to win.

RACE 8: Benchmark 64 (900m)
BURNETT (12) is an Anthony Cummings-bred, owned and trained mare who generates a whole lot of interest here first-up – and at massive odds too. Granted, it is all about taking on trust and some guesswork but if she runs here like she did on debut at Kembla, she will mow ‘em down like a Victa. Now the question; can she can run down CURL CURL (1) and / or OUTISHKA (2), who would get close to the course record at most tracks? Just hope Scone plays fair this time otherwise we’re sunk.
BET: Burnett each-way, box trifecta 1,2,6,12.

RACE 9: Class 1 Handicap (1200m)
EQUIPAGE (3) has a very tidy resume of nine starts for a win and six placings and always in better races than this one not at all to imply that it is weak, if they run, it is pretty strong actually. Perhaps the wide draw brings Equipage back to them a bit but she is versatile and has a good finish. FLYING THINKER (5) is city class every day of the week – or will be, anyway. Her two runs at the provincials have been terrific and it could be that she peaks third-up now. GODELBA (11) is the value.
BET: Equipage to win or of scratched Flying Thinker to win, Godelba to place.
