Punters Previews for Moonee Valley on 10:08:24

Herald Sun and Racenet form analyst Gilbert Gardiner gives his $200 betting strategy and detailed quaddie analysis for The Valley on Saturday.

RACE 1: BENCHMARK 78 FILLIES AND MARES (1600m)

$50 win WAIMARIE (5) $3.20

Up in grade but cannot fault recent form. Tactics change three starts back, ridden forward, has netted two wins and a game second. Drawn to find the front again from barrier four and should be hard to run down at The Valley.

RACE 5: BENCHMARK 100 (1000m)

$50 win ACROMANTULA (1) at $4.80

Touched off in this race last year and then won the Listed Carlyon Stakes second-up. The West Australian has arrived in Melbourne more forward, with a second trial under the belt compared to one last year. MORNINGTON GLORY (2) the obvious threat.

RACE 7: TRAVIS HARRISON CUP (2040m)

$25 each-way SMOKIN’ ROMANS (2) at $5/$1.95

A long time between celebratory cigars but bursting to win another race. Horrifying, who beat Smokin’ Romans last start, has won again since. The 2022 Group 1 Turnbull Stakes winner – his last success – is hard fit and could take a power of catching if able to dictate the race.

RACE 9: BENCHMARK 84 (1200m)

$25 each-way WHY WORRY (3) at $8.50/$3

Freshened up after fading out of contention in the Listed Santa Ana Lane Series Final last start. Won first-up at Caulfield and not beaten far second-up behind Baraqiel. Drawn to lead from barrier one. Respect EXTRATWO (7), has won two of three at The Valley.

QUADZILLA

LEG 1 - RACE 6

PORT ALBERT (1) has won twice at The Valley and placed once in five starts at the venue. Could he pose a threat to the favourite and stablemate BIG ME (12)? Went super first-up after two years of the scene, but second up syndrome? TIZ ENUF (17) drawn poorly but has the ability to win, along with CHARMED RUN (10). Include CELESTIAL STORM (6).

1ST LEG: 1, 6, 10, 12, 17

LEG 2 - RACE 7

SMOKIN’ ROMANS (2) the old boy should get every chance to win again. Good luck getting past him if he gets an easy lead. Lightly-raced MATHEW (11) has upside and won two of the past three starts. ALDER (10), a Group 2 placegetter in Ireland, should improve second-up after solid performance at Caulfield in Australian debut.

2ND LEG: 2, 10, 11

LEG 3 - RACE 8

ASPEN COLORADO (16) should be right in the finish with even luck. Doesn’t win out of turn – three of 25 starts – but one was at The Valley. OUR EMPRESS ZOE (13) drawn poorly but makes own luck on speed. ANGRY SKIES (5) and DILLIAN (7) next best.

3RD LEG: 5, 7, 13, 16

LEG 4 - RACE 9

WHY WORRY (3) has drawn to jump, lead and win potentially. The ex-Hong Kong sprinter should be suited by the tight-turning terrain at The Valley. WALLENDDA (15) has the form to win, chasing the likes of Right To Party, The Black Cloud and Piastri. EXTRATWO (7) has won two of three at track. Include HOME RULE (6).

4TH LEG: 3, 6, 7, 15

COST $100 FOR 41%
