Herald Sun form analyst Chris Vernuccio gives his four-play $200 betting strategy and detailed quaddie selections for Caulfield on Saturday.

FOUR-PLAY

RACE 3: BM84 HANDICAP (1600m)

$50 win POUNDING (3) at $2.40

The five-year-old gelding was unlucky first-up in the Country Discovery but it was an encouraging return after a disappointing spring campaign. She’s well placed under the set weight plus penalties conditions.

RACE 8: VOBIS SHOWDOWN (1200m)

$25 each-way LINCOLNSHIRE (10) at $6.50/$2

Bold Bastille is the on-top selection but is at prohibitive odds. On the other hand, Lincolnshire looks a great each-way chance based on her debut win over Karavas, who comfortably beat subsequent Group 2 winner Eneeza on Oaks Day last spring.

RACE 9: VOBIS GOLD DASH (1200m)

$50 win HEDGED (1) at $1.85

Hedged returns to Melbourne after running a close Group 2 second in Sydney after drawing wide and settling a long way back. He can position closer to the speed here from barrier four.

RACE 8 MORPHETTVILLE: GROUP 1 ROBERT SANGSTER STAKES (1200m)

$50 win ESTRIELLA (12) at $3

The Ciaron Maher filly is unbeaten this campaign with three brilliant wins. Has to take on some classy mares but she hasn’t reached her ceiling yet. And you rarely see Mark Zahra riding at 54.5kg.

QUADZILLA

LEG 1 – RACE 7

The top five in saddlecloth order are all capable of winning in a tricky start to the quaddie. THE ASTROLOGIST (5) performed above market expectations in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap when third at $101 before he was slow away in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes. REY MAGERNIO (4) was competitive in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate and worked home soundly next start for third in the Bel Esprit Stakes, with runner-up Maharba winning since. Add GENERAL BEAU (3) and JIGSAW (1).

FIRST LEG: 1, 3, 4, 5

LEG 2 – RACE 8

BOLD BASTILLE (8) has been a class above her rivals in three straight wins, and has beaten six of her rivals here. She puts herself on-speed which makes her tough to beat even though she steps up to 1200m for the first time. Have to respect LINCOLNSHIRE (10), who defeated disqualified Group 3 winner Karavas in a Listed race in Adelaide on debut. For those wanting to go wider, LINKVUE (1) was 2½ lengths behind Bold Bastille on debut at Bendigo and could make natural improvement over the extra trip. STANLEY EXPRESS (7) is the unknown on debut.

SECOND LEG: 8, 10

LEG 3 – RACE 9

HEDGED (1) and MOBY DICK (5) are the standouts. Hedged returns from Sydney after a fast-finishing second behind Thousand Guineas winner Joliestar in the Group 1 Arrowfield Sprint. Moby Dick was denied a third straight win but steps back up to 1200m. He’s drawn to stalk the favourite in the run.

THIRD LEG: 1, 5

LEG 4 – RACE 10

Lots of chances in the final leg. BANK MAUR (3) is better suited at 1400m after being kept to sprint distances this campaign. DEVOTED (9) was held up in the Country Discovery and won second-up last prep. SO RISQUE (15) was a three-quarter-length second to the in-form Arran Bay last start. JIMMY THE BEAR (2) resumes and will be better for the run but has drawn well. AIR (18) has had a freshen since his last-start win. KING MAGNUS (1) has a great record at the track and distance. Could easily have missed the winner.

FOURTH LEG: 1, 2, 3, 9, 15, 18

CAULFIELD

FIRST LEG: 1, 3, 4, 5

SECOND LEG: 8, 10

THIRD LEG: 1, 5

FOURTH LEG: 1, 2, 3, 9, 15, 18

Cost $100 for 104.16%

SKINNY QUADDIE

Starting off with three runners in the first leg: THE ASTROLOGIST (5), REY MAGNERIO (4) and GENERAL BEAU (3). Backing in BOLD BASTILLE (8) in the second leg. HEDGED (1) and MOBY DICK (5) can fight out the finish in the third leg. Staying wide in the final leg.

FIRST LEG: 3, 4, 5,

SECOND LEG: 8

THIRD LEG: 1, 5

FOURTH LEG: 1, 2, 3, 9, 15, 18

Cost $100 for 277.77%
