Herald Sun form analyst Gilbert Gardiner gives his four-play $200 betting strategy and detailed quaddie selections for the Australian Guineas meeting at Flemington on Saturday.

FOUR-PLAY

RACE 5: 3YO OPEN FILLIES (1100m)

$25 each-way PEACE TREATY (6) $5/$1.95

Tricky race to resume in, with talented and progressive opposition, but Peace Treaty showed above average ability last campaign and after a short break should have the residual fitness to fire first-up down the Flemington straight. Anthony and Sam Freedman-trained Peace Treaty bolted in last start at The Valley by 3¼ lengths under a hold. Toughest test yet but should be in the finish. Respect favourite MOESHA (5), who has finished fourth the past two starts in Group company.

RACE 7: INGLIS SPRINT (1200m)

$25 each-way SCENTIFY (4) at $23/$6

First look at the Flemington for Scentify but suspect the talented three-year-old colt could appreciate the straight, would be more confident with a bit of sting out of the ground but no better surface than Headquarters. Drawn middle to give jockey Ben Allen options and Ciaron Maher-trained Scentify should be strong late second-up. Placed behind Steparty second and third-up last campaign. Worth a nibble at odds in an otherwise open race. Stablemate ESTRIELLA (8) hardest to beat along with Sydney raider CABALLUS (1).

RACE 8: GROUP 1 AUSTRALIAN GUINEAS (1600m)

$25 each-way SOUTHPORT TYCOON (12) at $11/$3.30

What price had he won either of the past two starts in the Group 2 Australia Stakes and Group 2 Autumn Stakes? Made up a heap of ground first-up, beaten a head behind VEIGHT (2), a $7.50 chance on Saturday, and then could not hold out SNOW PATROL last start in a head-bob at Caulfield. First time at Flemington but the big open track should suit and 1600m right in the wheelhouse. Luckless in the Caulfield Guineas last spring, ninth of 15 but struck traffic in the straight.

RACE 9: GROUP 2 BLAMEY STAKES (1600m)

$25 each-way CARINI (14) at $7/$2.50

Nice run from back in the field first-up at Flemington behind MAKRAM (8), Jimmysstar and Savannah Cloud. Should be better for the run and won second-up at Flemington over 1700m last campaign. Leading jockey Damian Lane has stuck with the Danny O’Brien-trained former international poised to run a big race on Saturday. Makram the danger again, has won three of seven starts second-up and suited by the rise in distance. ATISHU (2) disappointed first-up at Caulfield but is a Group 1 winner at Flemington. Respect.

QUADZILLA

LEG 1 – RACE 7

CABALLUS (1) and ESTRIELLA (8) the obvious selections. Caballus going for a hat-trick of wins and Bjorn Baker certainly knows the right horses to travel to Melbourne. Estriella won impressively last start at Caulfield and better for it. OUROBOROS (3) was tough last start second down in grade. Fitter and drawn the right part of the track. Hard to get past. SCENTIFY (4) the knockout contender.

1ST LEG: 1, 3, 4, 8

LEG 2 – RACE 8

Group 1 Victoria Derby winner RIFF ROCKET (1) the class horse and one to beat. Breathtaking win first-up in the Group 3 C.S Hayes and should only be better for it. KING COLORADO (3) ready to peak third-up with the blinkers on. Will need to find a length or two to rival Riff Rocket. VEIGHT (2) took on the older horses at weight-for-age last start and went super – beaten 1.3 lengths behind Mr Brightside. Include SOUTHPORT TYCOON (12).

2ND LEG: 1, 2, 3, 12

LEG 3 – RACE 9

CARINI (14) second-up at Flemington has been a winning recipe previously and could be again. Good effort first-up fourth at Flemington, beaten 1¼ lengths. Drawn out but gets back anyway and should be strong late. ATISHU (2) disappointed first-up at Caulfield but returns to Flemington and suited at 1600m. The Group 1 Champions Stakes (2000m) winner is on an Australian Cup path so watch for her late. MAKRAM (8) went enormous first-up at big odds and has raced best second-up previously. BERKELEY SQUARE (11) best of the rest.

3RD LEG: 2, 8, 11, 14

LEG 4 – RACE 10

LOUNGE BAR RUBI (5) only found one better last start and has the right form to be competitive again in similar company. HE’S OUR BONNEVAL (7) always runs well but hasn’t won for a while. Must include but too short in the market. ARRAN BAY (4) has won three of four second-up, drawn perfectly. Market support?

4TH LEG: 4, 5, 7
