Trainer Bjorn Baker has ambitions to win the $20 million The TAB Everest with a mare that doesn’t like him!
Baker’s brilliant sprinter, Stefi Magnetica, already a winner of the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap, is one of the kindest horses in the stable but she prefers the company of everyone else except her trainer.
“She’s a real lady, ‘Stefi’,” Baker said. “But she doesn’t like her trainer much. When I go near her, she puts her ears back. You can tell she’s not happy.”
Baker reveals the unusual relationship he has with Stefi Magnetica in the first episode of The Race, a six-part documentary series on The TAB Everest that goes online on Daily Telegraph TV from 8am on Friday.

Then every Friday morning for the next month, a new episode will appear online chronicling the twists and turns leading up to the world’s richest turf race, run at Royal Randwick on October 19.
Each week, we will review key race results, get the latest news from trainers, jockeys, owners and Everest slot-holders, and preview the races to watch out for on Saturday.
In The Race episode 1, we talk to Baker about the chances of Stefi Magnetica in the Group 2 $1 million The Shorts, which is run at Royal Randwick on Saturday.
Baker is keen for Stefi Magnetica to race competitively in The Shorts and put herself into contention for an Everest slot.
But she faces some serious opposition from Everest hopefuls on Saturday including the likes of brilliant last start Concorde Stakes winner I Am Me, Golden Slipper winner Lady Of Camelot, Aft Cabin, Mumbai Muse and dual Everest placegetter Private Eye.
The Race also interviews Joe Pride at his Warwick Farm stables to get his take on Private Eye’s Everest preparation and the latest on the defending champ, Think About It.
The first episode of the series reviews the outstanding wins of Sunshine In Paris in the Sheraco Stakes and Traffic Warden in the Run To The Rose, and slot-holder TAB’s decision to select the Ciaron Maher-trained Bella Nipotina.
The Race documentary series can be found on The Daily Telegraph’s website, DTTV, and via the QR code which will appear each Friday in The Daily Telegraph.
