The field for the $20m The TAB Everest is taking shape with a trio of brilliant mares, I Am Me, Stefi Magnetica and Joliestar, earning selection for the world’s richest turf race.
In the second episode of The Race, a six-part documentary series on The TAB Everest that goes online on Daily Telegraph TV from 8am on Friday, we review the slot-holders who swooped on the three sprinters this week, leaving only five vacant slots.
Trainer Adrian Bott has his eye on one of those slots and is interviewed about the chances of boom colt Storm Boy in the Group 1 $1m Golden Rose at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.
If Storm Boy can win the three-year-old classic he could be back in The Everest conversation.

“We’ve got everything open because I think even The Everest itself is still evolving. We are still trying to get a clearer picture of how that race may look and if Storm Boy fits in,’’ Bott said.
The Race also interviews two-time Everest-winning trainer Peter Snowden about crack colt Bodyguard who he describes as the “best looking horse I’ve ever been associated with’’ ahead of his comeback in the Listed $200,000 Heritage Stakes (1200m).
“He’s just got everything going for him - good attitude, a great specimen and he’s got talent,’’ Snowden said, confirming Bodyguard needs to run well to come into The Everest conversation.
We also preview the Group 1 $2m Manikato Stakes at The Valley where Everest favourite I Wish I Win has his final lead-up race.
But I Wish I Win faces serious opposition from the likes of Growing Empire, Estriella, Kimochi and Hayasugi who are all auditioning for an Everest slot.
As the countdown continues to The Everest, run at Royal Randwick on October 19, a new episode of The Race will appear online on each Friday morning chronicling the twists and turns leading up to the world’s richest turf race, run at Royal Randwick on October 19.
We review key race results, get the latest news from trainers, jockeys, owners and Everest slot-holders, and preview the races to watch out for on Saturday.
The second episode of the series reviews I Am Me’s win over Stefi Magnetica in The Shorts which resulted in both mares being selected for The Everest, and the decision of trainer Chris Waller to confirm Joliestar as his runner.
The Race documentary series can be found on the Daily Telegraph’s website, DTTV, and via the QR code which will appear each Friday in The Daily Telegraph.
