Godolphin’s talented filly Tempted secured a Golden Slipper start with an outstanding win in fast time at Royal Randwick on Saturday.
Tempted was ridden conservatively early from a wide barrier and settled at the rear of the field before unleashing a powerful finishing surge to win the Group 2 $300,000 Reisling Stakes (1200m).
Trainer James Cummings said Tempted rebounded from a luckless run in the Blue Diamond to win with authority.

“It was good to see her get back in the game after a luckless run at Caulfield,” Cummings said.
“She has freshened up beautifully since the Blue Diamond. We’ve barely done much with her, yet she’s been able to deliver off the back of a strongly run six furlong (a1200m) here at Randwick.
“I liked the way she floated home up the middle, perfectly to plan, she’ll step off that and she can go right into the Slipper with a sail full of momentum and an absolute truckload of confidence.”
Tempted ($2.90 favourite), ridden by James McDonald, finished strongly to run down Marhoona ($11) and win by neck with Inkaruna ($5.50) a length away third.
Bel Merci led early before fading in the straight to beat only one rival to the line but Tempted enjoyed the brisk tempo before stopping the clock at a brilliant 1m 8.49s.
McDonald said Tempted’s win was very impressive given the filly was forced very wide on the home turn.

“I thought I was going to see the outside fence, I was getting shunted a little bit,” McDonald said.
“She’s a professional, she’s very similar to her mum (Calliope), Her mum was a little rocket, but she’s got a better head on her shoulders, so that’ll take her a long way
“She was really good today and is a proper genuine chance in two weeks time for sure.”
Tempted will now attempt to become the eighth filly to complete the Reisling Stakes-Golden Slipper double after Estijaab (2018), Overreach (2013), Polar Success (2003), Belle Du Jour (2000), Merlene (1996), Burst (1992) and Hartshill (1974).
Cummings said Tempted has had the right preparation to be very competitive in the $5 million Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 22.
“I like that she’s come out of the Blue Diamond, she’s not taken a backward step from there,” Cummings said.
“She’s had the seasoning and she’s got the attitude for it. There was a bit of jostling at the back of the field but coped with and was able to finish her race off so well.
“She will step off that and go to the Golden Slipper with real momentum.”
