Storm Boy headlines Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott triple threat in Golden Rose

Co-trainer Adrian Bott believes all three of his colts are winning chances in Saturday’s Group 1 Golden Rose at Rosehill Gardens.

The Race Season Two Trailer: A deep dive into The Everest

Trainer Adrian Bott reckons boom colt Storm Boy will get what he’s been looking for in Saturday’s Group 1 $1m Golden Rose (1400m) while stablemates Mayfair and Anode shouldn’t be discounted at Rosehill Gardens.

Tulloch Lodge trainers Gai Waterhouse and Bott have stuck to their plan to launch a three-pronged attack in the three-year-old feature, where a field of 11 contenders was revealed on Tuesday.

The trio will take on Godolphin weapons Broadsiding ($2.80 fav) and Traffic Warden ($4) in the stallion-making major where Storm Boy is on the third line of betting $4.40.

‘Superb’ Giga Kick on track for next Everest audition

Storm Boy, purchased for $22.5m in the autumn, tackles the race third-up as he hunts an all important Group 1.

“It will be interesting to see Storm Boy out to 1400m, I think that is potentially what he has been looking for and he will keep appreciating getting out over further,” Bott said.

“Storm Boy was excellent for us first-up winning the San Domenico and ran a very good race second-up (in The Run To The Rose) when the race didn’t pan out as we’d hoped for the run.

“I still thought it full of merit and he has trained on nicely.”

Storm Boy will jump from the outside draw with Anode ($12) one to his inside.
Anode nearly caused a shock in his first run back from a spell when he ran a narrow second to Traffic Warden in the Group 2 Run To The Rose while beating Storm Boy.

“Anode produced a lovely run first-up and a repeat of that performance amongst those right horses in the market, that puts him right in contention here,” Bott said.

“We have seen him out to 1400m before and he’s been very effective so he’s in the mix.”

Mayfair ($31) only had his racing debut in the first week of July but has put together an impressive first preparation that could culminate with a major.

Racing future uncertain for injured Moody filly

The Fastnet Rock colt has never finished worse than second in four starts with runner-up finishes in his past two behind Storm Boy (San Domenico Stakes) and Lady Shenandoah (Ming Dynasty Quality).

“Mayfair brings a different form line through last start having had that 1400m run in the Ming Dynasty,” Bott said.

“That may set him up well but he has been excellent and handled that step up in trip very well.

“We thought he would always appreciate this sort of trip and he is still learning and putting it all together still.

“He wasn’t able to put the race away the other day but he keeps finding.”

Adam Hyeronimus rides Storm Boy, Tim Clark pilots Anode and Blake Shinn is aboard Mayfair.

Kia Ora Stud and trainers Anthony and Sam Freedman made the decision to pay the $37,500 late acceptance fee to give Tropicus his chance in the Golden Rose.
