Jumps champion Stern Idol sealed back-to-back Mosstrooper Steeplechase triumphs with another emphatic display at Pakenham on Sunday.

The Ciaron Maher-trained jumps drawcard bowled along in front and was never threatened under decorated jockey Steven Pateman, winning by 14 lengths.

“He’s the best chaser I’ve ever sat on,” Pateman told Racing.com post-race.

Stern Idol returned $1.30 with TAB from Tom Foolery and Not Usual Dream.

The Mosstrooper is the third feature Stern Idol has collected this season, along with the J.E.H Spencer Memorial and Brierly Steeple.

Stern Idol is slated to defend his Crisp Steeple (4200m) crown at Sandown on August 4.

Earlier on the card, Right Now bolted in the Brendan Drechsler Hurdle (3500m), also by 14 lengths.

Former Melbourne Cup hopeful Point Nepean opened the Pakenham card in brilliant fashion with a startling debut 12-length 3200m hurdle triumph.
