Simon Zahra aims Shesallshenanigans at Saturday’s $500,000 Sunlight Classic at Flemington

Smart filly Shesallshenanigans will attempt to replicate last year’s huge autumn windfalls when she resumes in Saturday’s $500,000 Sunlight Classic at Flemington.

Racing for huge money in a big field won’t be a worry for smart filly Shesallshenanigans in Saturday’s Sunlight Classic at Flemington.

Shesallshenanigans banked more than $730,000 in two runs last autumn, winning the VOBIS Gold Rush and VOBIS Showdown during a brilliant start to her career.

The Toronado filly returned in the spring to beat 18 rivals down the Flemington straight in the Listed Cap D’Antibes Stakes last September.

Has the All-Star Mile run its race?

Shesallshenanigans will compete against 15 other three-year-olds for $500,000 in the Sunlight Classic.

Her trainer Simon Zahra won the race with Crystal Web in 2013 during his time training in partnership with Mathew Ellerton and he made the Sunlight Classic one of Shesallshenanigans’ main autumn targets.

“She’s a lot more forward than she has been in other preps because this is one of her goals,” Zahra said.

“Horses like her are hard to place so we’ll have one crack at it on Saturday before we see how she goes and we make decisions after that.”

Shesallshenanigans finished six lengths from the winner in a Group 3 race down the Flemington straight on Oaks Day but Zahra said the sprinter had an excuse for that outing.

He said two jumpouts and strong track gallops left Shesallshenanigans at almost peak condition for the Sunlight Classic.

“She got a little bit crook last time in and just wasn’t quite the same horse at Flemington last start,” Zahra said.

“She’s thickened up and looks a lot better.

“I think it’s a pretty strong race but she’s going well.

“Her jumpouts have been really good and everything has gone well for this prep.”

Zahra said Shesallshenanigans’ performance in the Sunlight Classic would determine his next move with the winner of four of 10 starts.

“We could go to the Sangster (Classic) in Adelaide if she’s going well enough or there’s a really nice VOBIS Gold race for her at Caulfield in a few weeks,” Zahra said.

“They’re both 1200m races so they’re good options depending on how she runs Saturday.”

Ben Melham will ride Shesallshenanigans at Flemington.
