Sandown Guineas winner Serasana the best bet for Saturday’s Easter Cup meeting at Caulfield

Dropping a few grades could get a Group 2 winner back to the winner’s circle while a consistent Ballarat-trained mare could end the day on a high for punters at Caulfield on Saturday.

SERASANA (Race 6, No.3)

Serasana drops in class after two runs in Group company this time in. She’s a Group 2 winner at Caulfield and can improve sharply.

VALUE BET

BELLE PLAISIR (Race 10, No.1)

Belle Plaisir had a few things go wrong before being narrowly beaten at The Valley. She’ll be fitter again and can break through in the last.

RACE 1: 12.10PM VALE JOHN RUSSELL (1200m)

Showers could keep the track in the soft range on Saturday. APPOINTED (5) hit the line well once he found his feet at Ballarat on debut and can improve considerably on that. IMMORTAL STAR (8) chased well when not disgraced in stakes grade second-up and will be fitter. FEROCE (2) was too good at Pakenham on debut and will give them something to chase. PERSPIRATION (3) was solid on debut in Sydney and will be better for it.

SUGGESTED BET: Appointed to win.

RACE 2: 12.40PM ROBERT TARANTO HANDICAP (2000m)

Tough race but BERKSHIRE BREEZE (2) has been gelded since his sound effort on Melbourne Cup Day last year and finds a winnable race here. FUTURE MONARCH (8) steps up to 2000m after a good win at Bendigo. TOLPUDDLE (5) is on trial at 2000m but finished strongly to win on the Heath track third-up. UNSEEN RULER (6) will find this a bit easier than his last assignment and looks ready to 2000m.

SUGGESTED BET: Small win bet Berkshire Breeze.

RACE 3: 1.15PM NOEL RUNDLE HANDICAP (1200m)

Open race but THALER (4) should have every chance to measure up to this after proving too strong at The Valley second-up. THE PRODIGAL SON (7) is unbeaten first-up and has trialled well on both sides of the border leading up to this. WHITE BEAR (10) was solid again in this class last time and will be fitter. CALIFORNIA SURREAL (9) drops in class on her last couple of runs and can improve.

SUGGESTED BET: Win on Thaler & Prodigal Son.

TAB MARKET MOVER: Tiffany Valentine $10 – $7.

RACE 4: 1.50PM EVERGREEN TURF BERTT BRYANT HANDICAP (1200m)

MOESHA (5) produced a terrific effort when racing wide and having little luck before running on well at The Valley. She can win with a softer run. ILLATIVE (11) is a developing filly that won well at Pakenham. ZOUKERETTE (7) drops in class from her last few runs and has trialled well enough. RUBIKTON (12) was too strong on debut and could improve with race experience.

SUGGESTED BET: Moesha to win.

RACE 5: 2.25PM STOW STORAGE BILL COLLINS HANDICAP (1400m)

FURIOUS (7) is lightly-raced but promising and can atone for a narrow defeat over 1200m first-up. BAHAMA BAY (13) is improving and has drawn to have every chance at his first crack at 1400m. RUSSIAN FRONT (14) was too good at Bendigo and should be competitive again in this. JABBAWOCKEEZ (9) is fresh for this and enjoys racing on soft ground.

SUGGESTED BET: Furious to win.

RACE 6: 3PM MARSHALL WHITE GEOFF MURPHY HANDICAP (1600m)

Happy to back SERASANA (3) here as she’s dropping back a few grades in class and was a comfortable Sandown Guineas winner at her last run over 1600m at Caulfield. NANA’S WISH (8) raced handy and proved too strong at Pakenham last time and is drawn to repeat those tactics. REGAL VOW (4) should have finished closer at Sandown last time and likes 1600m. JENNY JEROME (1) was narrowly beaten in Tassie and drops in class for this.

SUGGESTED BET: Serasana to win.

RACE 7: 3.35PM LISTED ELVIS THURGOOD GALILEE SERIES FINAL (2400m)

ANTRIM COAST (1) was too strong despite dropping in trip at The Valley and ran second in the NZ Derby at his last 2400m run. INTO YOU (14) hasn’t had much luck at her last two runs in Group company and should go well. SUNSETS (3) will be fitter for his solid second-up effort at The Valley. APULIA (1) will be fitter for two runs back and might be looking for the 2400m.

SUGGESTED BET: Antrim Coast to win.

RACE 8: 4.15PM GROUP 3 SPORTSBET VICTORIA HANDICAP (1400m)

Tough race but SEONEE (5) might be the value runner after a sound third when resuming and she’s unbeaten over 1400m with a good second-up record. GLOBE (9) is smart when right and trialled well at Cranbourne leading up to this. ATTRITION (1) is a Group 1 winner that can bounce back from a below-par effort in Group 1 class when resuming. BUFFALO RIVER (2) is racing well and will be hard to run down again.

SUGGESTED BET: Box trifecta 1, 2, 5, 9.

RACE 9: 4.55PM GROUP 3 TOBIN BROTHERS EASTER CUP (2000m)

JENNILALA (8) will find this easier than tackling Group 1 company in Sydney second-up and she’s Group 1-placed over 2000m. FIRST IMMORTAL (3) was too strong first-up and stepping to 2000m will be perfect. DENY KNOWLEDGE (4) drops in class on her first-up outing and could be hard to run down. SHAIYHAR (11) ran on well when resuming and is unbeaten second-up.

SUGGESTED BET: Jennilala each-way.

RACE 10: 5.35PM JACK ELLIOTT HANDICAP (16000m)

BELLE PLAISIR (1) is a great chance to win the last as she’ll be fitter for two runs back and had little luck at The Valley last time. HOLBEIN (6) did it tough and fought on well at The Valley and has drawn for a softer run. FRIGID (13) was unlucky when resuming and will be much fitter. FARHH FLUNG (12) ran on well first-up and likes the 1600m.

SUGGESTED BET: Belle Plaisir to win.
