Reserve Bank’s affinity with Adelaide continued when defeating the older horses in the $1 million Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville on Saturday.

Reserve Bank made it three consecutive South Australian wins when coming from back in the field, surging through the ruck in the straight to defeat local galloper Sir Sway and short favourite Giga Kick in third.

Reserve Bank’s win was the first time this season a three-year-old colt claimed a Group 1 win in open age company.

A son of Capitalist, the win was Reserve Bank’s fifth from 11 starts, taking his earnings to more than $980,000.

Reserve Bank gave his trainers Mick Price and Michael Kent (Jnr) their second Group 1 win of the South Australian autumn carnival. Jamie Melham was the winning rider.

This is what the riders thought of their mount’s performance in The Goodwood.

1st - RESERVE BANK (Jamie Melham) Nothing went to plan. He reared out the gates, missed the start, but I just got a dream run. I got a beautiful run in the end. Giga Kick was on our outside, and I thought if I drag back now and get on his backside, he’s going to be too sharp. So we just rode for luck. The gaps came and I was just a passenger. Mick’s (Price) got this horse absolutely flying. That was a very impressive win.

2nd - SIR SWAY (Jake Toeroek) Super run. You can’t be disappointed with that. He’s run out of his skin and tried his guts out and the connections are really happy.

3rd - GIGA KICK (Mark Zahra) He ran well. From the barrier we had to settle back. The jockeys in front of me got into a bit of a tussle and I had to swing wider than I wanted but he got to the line nicely.

4th - AMEENA (Dean Yendall) Had a nice run and settled really well. Just got carted off onto Anzac Highway on the turn which didn’t help and lost a few lengths which didn’t help being taken off her line. The straight is better out there, so I wasn’t too bothered but she still finished off well.

5th - GENEROSITY (Lucy Fiore) Super run. I had a really nice run in transit, maybe not in the best part of the track late.

6th - CLIMBING STAR (Thomas Stockdale) I didn’t expect her to lead. The speed horses were nowhere to be found on jumping away. She’s a horse that needs to smooth, so it’s not ideal leading, but that’s where we were and what we had to deal with. She gave a nice shout for the run that she had.

7th - WATCHME WIN (Jason Holder) He travelled really well in the run. He had the same sort of run as when he run. He stopped pretty quick with the 56.5 (kg). He’s probably better weighted a bit lower.

8th - PRAIRIE FLOWER (Will Price) She ran enormous. She was a little bit tardy away. She got in a good spot and always travelled well. She quickened up with the field but she probably just lacks that class, but she ran really honestly.

9th - SGHIRRIPA (Ben Price) Honest run. Unfortunately he made a bit of a meal of it at the start and I would have loved to have dictated as they did. They probably outsprinted him from the 600 (metres) but I thought he was good to the line.

10th - VOLCANIC EXPRESS (Justin Potter) He ran good. He settled back and probably a little more speed would have suited him better. He probably 12 months away from a good race like that, but he tried hard.

11th - STRETAN ANGEL (Lachlan Neindorf) She a tired horse. She’s ready to go to the paddock and freshen up a bit. She just lacked that spark.

12th - PRESS DOWN (Rochelle Milnes (a)) They were a class above him today.

13th - CHARM STONE (Ben Melham) Just off her action today. She’s a better mare than that.
