Star jockey Tommy Berry is siding with the strength of the Chris Waller stable with his Group 1 rides at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.
Berry will partner Buckaroo in the $1.5m Tancred Stakes (2400m) and Mare Of Mt Buller in the $750,000 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m).
England’s Ryan Moore rode Buckaroo last Saturday when finishing a close third to Via Sistina and Place Du Carrousel in the Ranvet Stakes.
“It took two really good horses to beat him last week,’’ Berry said.
“He came out slow and ended up in a spot where he couldn’t really get going when he wanted to. But he was strong to the line and was one of the better closers on the day.’’
Buckaroo has firmed to second favouritism at $4.80 behind English raider Post Impressionist at $2.40.
Mare Of Mt Buller has won three races in succession this campaign and is being aimed at the Group 1 $1m ATC Australian Oaks (2400m) at Royal Randwick on April 13.
“She was very impressive last start,’’ Berry said.
“The stable has always had a good opinion of her.’’
Mare Of Mt Buller is at $41 for the fillies classic that is being billed as a match between Orchestral ($1.60) and Zardozi ($4.20).
Berry also rides promising three-year-old Wymark in the Group 2 $300,000 Tulloch Stakes (2000m) and unbeaten two-year-old Linebacker in the Group 3 $250,000 Baillieu Handicap (1400m).
“Wymark is heading towards the (ATC Australian) Derby,’’ Berry said.
“He has got nice gate speed and will put himself there. Linebacker has been very impressive and is being set for the Champagne Stakes.’’

PRICE CHECK
Orchestral (race 7) opened at $2.10 when final fields were declared on Wednesday but she has been solidly backed all week and is into $1.60 for the Vinery Stud Stakes. There’s been some sizeable bets on the boom Kiwi filly including $2500 at $1.80. She could start the shortest favourite since Special Harmony won at $1.50 in 2004.
TRIAL POINTERS
Linebacker (race 3) led and dominated his rivals on debut to win by nearly four lengths at Hawkesbury last month. Trainer John O’Shea has designs on the Champagne Stakes with this powerful chestnut colt and gave him a tick-over barrier trial over 900m at Rosehill last week when he again made all and romped in by more than three lengths without being placed under any pressure.
"It's a touchdown on debut!"

Another Wil (race 9) trialled the same day as Linebacker and was similarly impressive winning his 1030m heat narrowly but in commanding fashion. The winner of four of his six Victorian starts, what was most noticeable was how well Another Wil handled the Sydney way of going. A very talented, progressive gelding from the Ciaron Maher stable who must win to get into next week’s Doncaster Mile.
SECTIONAL STARS
Post Impressionist (race 8) settled at the rear of the field before unleashing a brilliant finishing burst to romp away with the Manion Cup last week. The English raider appreciated the solid speed but showed his stamina but sustaining his sprint with four successive 200m sectionals of less than 12sec to close out the race including a final 600m in 34.21sec.

Coin Toss (race 9) was a star three-year-old in Singapore before joining the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott stable last spring when he ran unplaced in the Silver Eagle and Golden Eagle. Coin Toss resumed in the National Sprint at Canberra earlier this month and gave a demonstration of his ability when he led throughout and ran his rivals ragged to score by two lengths in track record time of 1min 21.12sec for 1400m.
BEST BET
Another Wil (race 9) has looked a real talent winning each of his three starts this campaign by big margins. He bolted in at Flemington last start and then won a Rosehill barrier trial impressively. Another Wil stayed close to the rail and looked comfortable in the Sydney direction in the trial. This is his first test at stakes level but he’s drawn to get the right run and looks hard to beat.
What a WIN! ð¥

Another Wil is an impressive horse on the rise. ðð@cmaherracing@jamieleekah07pic.twitter.com/aQxN5xYrQo
VALUE BET
Zeyrek (race 2) did not beat a runner to the line in the Ranvet Stakes last week but it was a much better effort than it reads in paper. Zeyrek was full of running behind the leaders inside the final 300m and couldn’t get clear galloping room, finishing only 2½ lengths behind Via Sistina. He won this race last year and is right on target to do so again. Even $4 is generous.
