JOCKEY TO FOLLOW

Aaron Bullock will be popular, as always and rightly so, in the TAB jockeys challenge.

GOULBURN

BEST BET

Race 2 No. 1: Sheetice

Was costly last start at $1.70 but was only just beaten. Should make amends here.

NEXT BEST

Race 1 No. 3: Pretty Eyed

On a hat-trick; has to go 2125m but everything says ‘yes she can’.

VALUE BET

Race 6 No. 11: Destructive Diva

Lightly-raced, consistent, and barnstorming on her day.

INSIDE MAIL - SCONE

RACE 5

Golden Button has raced 11 times for two wins and four seconds. Fair to say, he hasn’t really run a bad race in all that time. On top of all that, the son of Dissident is a last start winner from barrier 14 of 14 and easily too in the end. Same jockey again on Friday, namely Aaron Bullock. Lugh has drawn wide here and at Goulburn as well. He can still win wherever he goes. Higher Hand showed plenty of ticker to win at Tuncurry. Drawn to win again. Behind The Storm is one of the horses that can sometimes surprise. Races well here at home.

Bet: Golden Button to win

RACE 6

Midnight Opal’s sire is a direct descendant of Eight Carat. His dam is a direct descendant of Denise’s Joy. No wonder he can gallop. That much is obvious given his two trials wins there were of the highest calibre. Has to run well, surely. Dunmore Lass has gone to the line with more to offer in her two trials. Well-bred and in a good stable with the rails draw for Ash Morgan. Funny Feeling has some depth around and behind him in her trials. Respect.

Bet: Midnight Opal to win, exacta 11 to beat 7, Daily Double 1st leg (11), 2nd leg (6)

RACE 7

Trajectile is the ninth foal of VRC Oaks winner Hollow Bullet. The Kris Lees-trained filly has been getting back and flying home in both starts, one at 1100m here, the other at Tuncurry over 1400m. Unless she wants the mile now, she should go close to winning. Aethelflaed is a racecaller’s nightmare but she has got something there to like about her and the 1400m on a big track is bang on. Her half-brother won a NZ Derby. Night Patra has claims.

Bet: Trajectile to win, Aethefladed to place, exacta 14 to beat 10

RACE 8

Divine Vicky looks a steal now at $50,000 at the Inglis Classic; purchased by her trainer Matthew Smith. The daughter of So You Think was as tough as old boots when winning on debut and has since posted two thirds before the break. Never let go in a very deep heat at Rosehill on September 4. Rematch could almost be unbeaten in his three starts. When he has been beaten, it has been close, like the day he was nosed out on the line here by Melody Again. The Escape has obvious claims.

Bet: Divine Vicky to win, exacta 6 to beat 3

INSIDE MAIL - GOULBURN

RACE 5

Master Joe’s numbers tell it better than any words can. Here goes; six starts here at home for three wins and two seconds. Five starts at the track and trip for two wins and two seconds. Goes like a bomb first-up, barrier 4, Nick Heywood. Could he be a more perfect race? Nope. Raise Hell has similarly impressive figures at the Goulburn 1000m and does look to be getting close. King Charles should be strong late. Choisir’s Choice hasn’t raced in a fair while but he has trialled especially well.

Bet: Master Joe to win

RACE 6

Destructive Diva has also accepted for Canberra on Saturday and has drawn well. Whatever the case, not many horses at either venue have a bigger finish. Chesteray has looked good at time and not so good a lot of other times but it is worth noting that his single win to date was first-up as he is on Friday afternoon. The Gary Portelli-trained Deep Fury has finished on the podium at half of his 16 starts and in ‘good’ company. Looks a major player.

Bet: Destructive Diva to win or if scratched Chesteray each-way

RACE 7

Stand Guard is unplaced in three starts but one was good and we could find a little excuse here and there for the other two. We haven’t seen the Amanda Turner trained gelding since Boxing Day last year except for two very nice trials. Speaking of nice trials, there was so much to like about Toitime who is a big watch here first-up under new management. Midori Glory, a fifth generation descendant of Twiglet, is another ‘watch’ horse here on debut. Good trainer, jockey, draw.

Bet: Stand Guard to win, box trifecta 3, 7, 8, 13

RACE 8

Bellman has his first 11 starts in Victoria, winning two and placed four times. His first run for new trainer Matthew Dale was in a 1200m Wagga Class 3 on August 31 and it contained a lot of merit given he drew 13 of 13 and wasn’t beaten too far, closing at the finish. This is 1500m. Hobbsy is very fit. He is at home on Friday, he should run 1500m but the only little negative with him is the wide alley. That said, it’s not a deal-breaker. He is going well. Montebello’s Charm has also accepted for the Highway at Rosehill on Saturday.

Bet: Bellman to win, quinella 1, 7
