ROSEHILL
BEST BET
Race 4, No.6: DEEP SNOW
He’s knocking on the door for a win and has drawn ideally with an inside gate. Gets the services of James McDonald who sought this ride.
NEXT BEST
Race 5, No.7: NEWLEY WED
She ran a brave race first-up at Hawkesbury when having to cover ground and make a long run to finish second. She’s an improver off it on her home track.
VALUE BET
Race 1, No.4: PERSONAL BEST
He didn’t get a lot of room in the straight on debut at Kembla Grange but was strong on the line and may start overs yet again.
QUADDIE
Race 4: 1, 8, 11
Race 5: 5, 7, 8
Race 6: 2, 3, 8, 10
Race 7: 3, 6, 10
JOCKEY TO WATCH
Kerrin McEvoy is back riding in town and will fancy his chances on This’llbetheone and Awesome Wonder in the last race.
TRAINER TO WATCH
Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou have two good chances in the opening race while Green Shadows looks well placed to run well in the fourth event.
THE INSIDE MAIL FOR ROSEHILL
RACE 1
Oriental Tycoon has had two runs this time in and placed in both. He’s back a little in trip which shouldn’t hurt and he has the country’s leading rider, James McDonald on board. It’s his time to shine. High Blue Sea got back over 1200m first-up, flushed wide and had to make a long run but was still good enough to run into second place. He looks like a horse that is looking for this trip now. Stablemate Grebeni was given a very soft trial so watch the market moves. Personal Best got little room in the straight on debut but was strong on the line over 1200m and this looks like a natural progression from a gate that give him a nice run in transit one off the fence.
Bet: Personal Best to win
RACE 2
There’s eight last start winners in this race. Felix Majestic will put some speed into this and is primed off a second-up win. Tashi won on debut in June at the midweeks before being spelled and the barrier trial this prep was a comfortable looking one. O’Tycoon gets more ground which is a plus and he too is third-up with no excuses. Coolmore colt Operative has been kept fresh since winning on debut at Newcastle four weeks ago when just being too good for the maiden rivals and James McDonald is now on. Ammahell has market support off a very quiet trial since winning on debut in town in July.
Bet: Tashi to win
RACE 3
Airman comes to town at the right time second-up after a solid win at Kembla Grange first-up but has drawn a wide gate now which can be an issue from this starting point. He just needs some luck to keep winning. Comrade Rosa has run in a number of Stakes races and did enough fresh to suggest she’s a chance with the leading rider on. Stick To Your Guns will inject speed into this race from wide draw and is very fit at the moment and won last time so expect him to be in it for a long way. Don’t underestimate Banju despite running in country races of late.
Bet: Banju to win
RACE 4
Gosford trainer Angela Davies has got James McDonald booked for Deep Snow and he comes off a second placing behind Robusto who McDonald rode to a close third in a Group 3 race last weekend. Green Shadows was chasing Deep Snow last start and although he didn’t threaten him, he is a big improver off that run. This’llbetheone led and just got pegged back late by Deep Snow and Robusto when resuming. I like him off a quicker back up now. Camino Real will look to have the last crack at them.
Bet: Exacta 6, 11
RACE 5
Typhoon Taavi should be the leader and is primed to peak now off three runs this time in where each run has been better than the previous. Hard to hold out. Deel Street is flying at the moment but on tracks with give in them so a firm surface now might be the query. Newley Wed had to get going early and come around them first-up at Hawkesbury. She has a fine second-up record so expect another very good run on her home track. Gary Portelli thought Thinking Rain might have been his VRC Oaks horse but she didn’t get there. She’s run well enough in better races than this to fugue in the finish.
Bet: Newley Wed to win
RACE 6
Estadio Mestalla is on debut in Australia after winning his only race in England over a mile by two lengths. His latest 1175m trial suggested that this 1500m looks great for him and James McDonald is booked. Akahata is back in trip again, has plenty of good form around him for a midweek race and fitness isn’t an issue. Pandano ran them down three weeks ago to win on the Kensington track but has a horrible record at this track with just one placing in nine runs. Indifference gets back and should be coming home well with a nice second-up record. Tidal Rush bolted in last start in the bush over this distance.
Bet: Estadio Mestalla to win
RACE 7
Tony Be goes from a 1400m race to 1800m second-up off a four-week break so it will be a good training performance by Chris Waller to get him winning. He had zero luck first-up and will run this trip. Travelling Kate should set the pace and dropping back a little in trip suits after a disappointing run last start when not liking a firm track. Socrates shoots for four-straight after dominating Highway races. This is a step up but he’s ready to take it. The blinkers are now on Awesome Wonder for the first time and she’s drawn to get an ideal run so expect a better result now.
Bet: Tony Be to win
