THE INSIDE MAIL FOR GOSFORD

RACE 1

Three first starters prominent in the market so relying on trial form to find a winner in the first. Leaning towards Field Agent on the back of two solid efforts. The Deep Field gelding looks like a speedy customer on his trial displays. Bias was given a typically solid hit out by the Bjorn Baker yard and can run well while Gunmetal was pushed out in his latest hit out. Both should be fit enough for their debut assignments. The interesting runner is Border Control. The former Hong Kong galloper didn’t beat a runner home in two runs in the Asian racing mecca but has trialled well here.

Verdict: Very tricky but Field Agent to win if anything.

RACE 2

If Divots can overcome the tricky draw, she will take some beating. Was excellent winning her only trial and looks a filly with plenty of potential. Sat just off the speed in that tune up so hoping Jason Collett can settle close to the speed in a good spot. Fanagoria has been beaten but not disgraced in two starts this prep. Ready to peak third up. Both Peter and Paul Snowdens’ other runners are first up but have trialled well. Island Tide is edging closer to a win after back to back seconds. Coriolis looked a hope but ran on Boxing Day.

Verdict: Divots to win.

RACE 3

Willing to give Crafty Eagle another chance after he was beaten as an odds-on favourite last start at Kembla. Certainly wasn’t disgraced in the hit out when toughing it out for second. Won a Warwick Farm maiden before that. Amigos No More came from last to break his maiden last start and can run well again from a good draw. A drop in grade should Charity Spirit but the draw make life tricky. Sir Godric was tough winning a fighting finish last start however the horse he edged out didn’t go much next start.

Verdict: Crafty Eagle to win.

RACE 4

Per Inaway seemed to be travelling well but raced without luck when fifth at Randwick last time. A Saturday Sydney winner last prep, she’s right up to this on best form. She just needs to get clear air from the inside draw to go very close. Fielding continues to race consistently and another win here wouldn’t surprise. Boss put two together before being crowded late last start at Canterbury. Trainer Adam Duggan looks to have him flying this preparation. Happy to include Game Theory and Amortal in wide multiples.

Verdict: Per Inaway to win.

RACE 5

Hell I Am raced into Magic Millions contention with a stellar first-up performance at Wyong. If he can replicate that, he’s going to take a power of beating. Stays at 1200m and looked to have some scope for improvement. His John O’Shea-trained stablemate Shalailed certainly lost no admirers when runner up to Hell I Am in that Wyong Magic Millions event. Russian Conquest is a very nice filly, finishing runner up in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic last here. Assess her on her dry track form and she has to be a winning chance. Has trialled well in the lead up and a winner first up before. Expecting those three to fight out the finish.

Verdict: Hell I Am to win.

RACE 6

Lekvarte is a mare on the up after producing a stylish performance to win at Randwick. Trainer Joseph Pride pairs her with the talented Kouklara, which isn’t without a hope but Lekvarte is certainly the pick of them. The step up to a mile should suit the daughter of Reliable Man nicely. Just needs cover from the gate. Michael Kent wouldn’t be travelling up Deny Knowledge for no reason. The Pride Of Dubai mare finished within a length of the winner when fourth in a Group 3 last start. Finds a similar race here with a good draw. Nothinsweetaboutme is a two-time winner second up and wasn’t far away fresh from a spell. The draw won’t be an issue if he goes straight to the front. Ausbred Flirt needs a scratching to get her chance in stakes grade on the short back up.

Verdict: Lekvarte to win.

RACE 7

Flying Annie can settle close to the speed and win the last. Trainers Ciaron Maher and David Eustace have given the mare a pair of trials to be ready for her return. Only missed the placings once in four attempts at the trip with two wins and a winner first up before. Golden Fighter looks to have returned from a break in good order. Trials suggest he runs well first up. Alicia Roma hasn’t missed the placings in four starts, all of which come over the 1000m. Throwing Amazing Nicci and Debussy in the quaddie.

Verdict: Flying Annie to win.
