COONAMBLE

BEST BET

Race 7, No.1: GREAT BUY

He’s got the class factor on his side and gets in with a winnable weight. He can jump and lead this all the way.

NEXT BEST

Race 1, No.3: MR SEVERINO

He’s knocking on the door here off two second placings at Armidale and Dubbo and he’s very fit now for a mile and should be going close against a small field.

QUADDIE

Race 5: 1, 2, 3

Race 6: 1, 4, 5, 7

Race 7: 1, 5, 6

Race 8: 1, 6, 11

TRAINER TO WATCH

Sue Grills might just win the first two races on the card here with Mr Severino and Piccapeppa.

WAGGA

BEST BET

Race 5, No.3: ATMOSPHERIC ROCK

He was put away after just getting pipped debut and trialled up in very comfortable fashion against a classy horse so he looks primed for a good return.

JOCKEY TO WATCH

Blake Spriggs only has two rides but Seventh Seal and Power Puff are well placed to win the fourth and eighth races.

THE INSIDE MAIL FOR COONAMBLE

RACE 5

Leave Me Be gets and extra 100m here which is probably going to be crucial and she didn’t get a lot of luck first-up for a new trainer so look for a better result this time. Stablemate Giftgiver has super first-up form and has raced in better events in this and he’ll put himself into this and prove hard to get past off two barrier trials. Titration can run a peak race now against a bunch of horses he should have the measure of. Indian Thunder has found form but in lesser class races.

Bet: Giftgiver to win

RACE 6

Yorker keeps running good races but has his first run at this track from an awkward gate but he can take a sit and run on and threaten late with a low weight. The Affirmative has also drawn wide but she has the gate speed to put herself into this race and her form is super with a last stat win and a second placing behind the promising Jacenza. With luck she’s right in it. Soosie Boog is showing promise but has also drawn out and needs some luck to slot in somewhere just off the speed.

Bet: The Affirmative to win

Ben Looker rides The Affirmative at Coonamble.

RACE 7

Expect Great Buy to jump and look to take up the lead here under his 61kg and he should be hard to beat now after a series of nice runs in higher grade than this. If a horse is to run him down it might be the stablemate Morgenstern who beat Aytobe first-up and should be even better now and if he can land one off the fence with cover and a few pairs back he’ll be in the right position to strike as the tongue tie goes on again. Macleay presents fresh here off two trials and he does run well off a break and gets he gun run from the gate so he’s got every chance.

Bet: Great Buy to win

RACE 8

Stablemates Toulon Factor and Silver Scissors will prove hard to beat here if they can get even luck from their wide gates. Both a rock-hard fit and ready to run at their best. Silver Scissors also has Cloudland form which is super for a race like this. This is the toughest test for Moonface but deserves a crack at this race off a last start win at a Sky 2 meeting while the same can be said for Agent Of Chaos who won well at Inverell four weeks ago. Costas has drawn the right gate now after coming out of a wide one last start when fourth at Mudgee down in grade.

Bet: Silver Scissors to win

THE INSIDE MAIL FOR WAGGA

RACE 5

Atmospheric Rock looked the winner on debut but just got pipped on the line. He beat a horse that’s since come out and won which helps the confidence levels of his backers. He is back off a 14-week let-up and looked comfortable in his slick barrier trial behind a Kosciuszko horse who also won a Country Championships heat this year. Matt Smith has brought Parrying down here for a kill off an encouraging barrier trial win. Spiritual Gal has decent South Australian form.

Bet: Atmospheric Rock to win

RACE 6

Lensman hasn’t won yet but showed plenty of promise last preparation and has the ability to take a sit and run on which is probably what has to happen here from a wide draw. Zouzouli has also drawn a little awkward but if the speed is on she too can come off it and hit the line hard. She’s improved with each run this time in under a leading trainer in the region. Stablemate La Quinta Donna had a very comfortable barrier trial leading into this but has also drawn out. Russian Ransom will put himself in this and give a sight.

Bet: Zouzouli to win

THE BIG DANCE

RACE 7

A Magic Zariz just keeps turning up and performing as a 10-year-old who thinks he’s a youngster and this race isn’t out of reach at his pet distance but it is his first time at the track. Swagger looks well placed here and is on a quicker back up now and he ticks all the boxes. All Words is more than up to this but a heavy track might be his undoing. A bog track will help Mad As Zariz who is rock-hard fit.

Bet: Quinella 1, 8

RACE 8

Fake Magic and Lunar Shoes are in the right form to be winning this race but both have drawn out so will need luck to be winning. Power Puff has a better gate than them and comes off a last start win which was a good one. He had to take off early and it was no surprise one came back at him late after he established a lead. With a better run in transit, he can go on with it here on a quicker back up for a city trainer an Blake Spriggs sticks which is key.

Bet: Power Puff to win
