Rockhampton rocket Chinny Boom will attempt to be the first hometown winner of rich slot race The Archer next month, with trainer Clinton Taylor confirming his stable star will head there following her winning return to racing at the Gold Coast on Saturday.
The mare, who once attracted huge offers from some of the country’s biggest stables, was a standout performer on a sub-par Gold Coast track and Taylor said it was now a matter of working out whether to run her again before heading to the $775,000 Beef Capital feature.
The move makes Chinny Boom the first confirmed runner in The Archer, with Taylor saying he wants to set her up for a shot at black type during the Brisbane winter carnival.

“She is definitely going to The Archer at home in Rocky, but we will sit around and work out if she has one more run or if we will trial her up before the race,” Taylor said.
“There’s a lot of talk about who is coming but I haven’t seen any other horses signed up yet.
“It would be a dream come true to win it, it was set up by Rocky people and for a local to win it, it would be unreal.
“Being a mare, she gets in nicely there, it is a nice race for her and we are hoping we can use it as a springboard into some nice races during the winter hopefully.”
After beating Sunshine In Paris early in her career and running Lady Laguna to less than a length in the Listed Nudgee Stakes in December, Taylor said Chinny Boom had the formlines to compete at the top level.

“I’d love to get some black type with her for (owner) Mark (Pascoe) – the form around her is unreal now with Lady Laguna and Sunshine In Paris both being Group 1 winners now,” he said.
“I don’t think the track was ideal on a day like that on Saturday, but at the end of the day we all had to run on it and to be honest the second horse (Outweighed) put in a really good run.”
Run over 1300m on April 28, The Archer is worth $400,000 to the winner, with a deal between connections of the horse and slot holders to be worked out privately.
