Queensland stewards have slapped an apprentice with a huge ban after she misjudged the length of a race and went for home on her horse a lap early at Kilcoy on Thursday.
Three-kilogram claimer Jade Metcalfe took off on $6 chance Bean All Ova rounding the home turn on the first lap of the Benchmark 58 Handicap over 1900m and pulled the whip before veering wide after the winning post thinking the race was over.
After admitting to her mistake to stewards, Metcalfe was suspended for five weeks.

The 1900m start at Kilcoy is near the 800m start, which is also used at Kilcoy.
Racing Queensland apprentice mentor and former worldwide Group 1 winner Robbie Fradd assisted Metcalfe in the stewards inquiry on Thursday and said it was an uncharacteristic mistake from Metcalfe, who was emotional after the race.
“She is a girl that does her form, it was an honest mistake,” Fradd told Racenet.

After crossing the winning post in front the first time around, Bean All Ova went on to finish last, beaten more than 20 lengths.
“Metcalfe pleaded guilty to AR129(2) in that she failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure her horse obtained the best possible place in the field in that she fully pressured the mare down the home straight on the first occasion after misjudging the distance of the event,” the stewards report reads.
