A changing of the guard in the Symon Wilde stable could be formalised on Saturday with untapped mare Plenty Of Ammo in the Group 2 Crystal Mile at The Valley.

Plenty Of Ammo, scratched from the Group 2 Tristarc Stakes last Saturday due to the wet track, is a $4.40 favourite with Ladbrokes, while long time Wilde flag-bearer Sirileo Miss, a multiple stakes winner and $972,800 prizemoney earner, is $17 in the Crystal Mile.

“She’s (Plenty Of Ammo) got a little bit of work to do to catch up to Sirileo Miss, her record should be better, (Sirileo Miss) missed that year in her absolute prime,” Wilde said.

“She’s a good mare on her day, but horses like this (Plenty Of Ammo) on the up, it’s quite exciting as we don’t know where the ceiling is with her … she has got to do it.”

Sirileo Miss was barred from racing for 12 months after returning a positive swab to a breast cancer treatment drug.

Wilde’s mare was one of five horses, all from separate stables, embroiled in a case of potential contamination set to be defended in the Victorian Racing Tribunal.

Sirileo Miss finished eighth in the Listed Weekend Hussler Stakes first-up, an improvement on two plain performances last campaign.

“She didn’t quite come up after that year off … I reckons she’s back going OK, I was pretty happy with her first-up and she’s on her way to 2000m,” Wilde said.

“She’s really starting to get in her groove, it wouldn’t surprise if she runs a race.”

Sirileo Miss won the Group 2 Sunline Stakes (1600m) at The Valley last year.

Wilde would be open to either mare, Plenty Of Ammo and Sirileo Miss, backing up in the Group 1 Empire Rose Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on Saturday week.

“If she (Plenty Of Ammo) won and pulled up well, or an unlucky second or something I think I would (back-up),” Wilde said.

“She’s passed a couple of levels (grades) unfortunately but that’s just the way it is with her because we’ve had so many barrier issues.

“You’d love to bring her up through the grades a bit more gradually but through circumstance we’ve thrown her in the deep end a bit.”

Plenty Of Ammo launched late to run second in a 1400m Listed race at Flemington first-up.

“First go black type and I thought she was arguably a bit unlucky,” Wilde said.

“I’m not one to look at sectionals but they tell me her sectionals were very solid … maybe that’s why she’s got backing in the market.”

Wilde also has Wishlor Lass set to contest the Group 3 Tesio Stakes at The Valley.

“She was good first up (Listed Testa Rossa Stakes), she’s probably not a genuine Group 1 horse, she ran in the Toorak, she was just a pass mark,” Wilde said.

“This is more her grade, third up, back to 2000m, mares, I think she’s pretty well placed.”

Wishlor Lass is a $10 chance with Ladbrokes.
