Peter Moody has been so impressed by the evolution of training partner Katherine Coleman that he fully expects to be training for her one day rather than vice versa.

The Moody-Coleman training partnership kicked off at the start of the racing season and has already netted a brace of feature race winners along with a pair of Group 1s (Autumn Angel in the Australian Oaks and Chain Of Lightning in the TJ Smith Stakes).

Training partnerships have become all the rage in Australia in recent years and the Moody-Coleman partnership is only set to become more formidable in future years.

Coleman has been with Moody since he relaunched his trainer career and the former Perth girl has been impressive since officially joining Melbourne’s elite training ranks at the start of the season.

Moody is the senior trainer but he would have no problem playing second fiddle to Coleman in the future.

“One day I would like to turn it around where she can employ me instead of me employing her,” Moody told Racenet.

“At the moment, the buck stops with me.

“But I want to see the day when the buck stops with her.

“We have worked out really well together and this (training partnership) is giving her a head start.

“I think she would be a very good trainer in her own right.”

Like many training partnerships, Moody opted in to help share the workload as racing gets busier and busier.

It was a considered move to pick Coleman as his training partner, with Coleman having earned her stripes working in Moody’s stable before taking on the role of co-trainer.

“The workload is quite significant these days with so much night racing and other racing, so it makes sense to have a training partner,” Moody said.

“Katherine is a good young girl, she’s got a great brain on her.

“I got to know her for a lot of years when she worked at Caulfield when I trained there, I knew she was a very talented young woman with a great passion for racing.

“We had a chat before I returned to training.

“I initially asked her to come and work for me for 12 months with the view to maybe doing something like this.

“It has worked out really well.”

In the hunt for their latest Group 1 in partnership, Moody and Coleman will saddle up Quickster ($10) and Mollynickers ($17) in the Australasian Oaks in Adelaide on Saturday.

They also have roughie Waltz On By ($41) in the Robert Sangster Stakes.

The team are also looking to make a Group 1 surge during the Queensland winter carnival with the likes of ace sprinter I Wish I Win and star filly Autumn Angel.
