Trainer Luke Price believes a genuine Royal Randwick mile could be just what Our Gold Hope is looking for as he attempts to pull off a Group 1 $1m Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) surprise on Saturday.

Price and his father Robert are hoping to snare their first ever major with one of his stable’s brightest talented on day two of The Championships.

Our Gold Hope, a runner-up in last year’s Queensland Oaks, went within a whisker of capturing her maiden stakes race last start when flashing home for third behind Ceolwulf in the Group 2 Neville Sellwood Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill Gardens.

She will drop back to the mile against some of Sydney’s best fillies and mares.

“I thought it was a slow run 2000m the other day and I just don’t see it being a drama,” Price said.

“She is rock-hard fit and I’ve wanted to get her to the Randwick mile for ages because I always thought she could come into her own at the Randwick mile so it’s certainly worth a go at Group 1 level for fillies and mares.”

A wet track would be an added bonus for Our Gold Hope however only light showers have been forecast on race day.

The daughter of Lope De Vega lapped up wet conditions last start and has only missed the placings once on soft or heavy tracks.

“She comes into her own on a heavy track when things fall into place,” Price said.

“I was happy to see there was a bit of rain on Tuesday night and would love a bit more later in the week if we can get it.

“You have a couple of great mares there that you still have to beat but we only got beaten by a small margin by Ceolwulf last start and a horse on the way up.

“I am really looking forward to it because it’s the best she has pulled up all prep from that run so I am going into Saturday confident we will see her at her best.”

Our Gold Hope is a $34 chance with Tyler Schiller booked to ride.
