Trainer Daniel Bowen to target The Kosciuszko with Eagle Farm winner Tectonic Plate

Tectonic Plate has emerged as another Kosciuszko contender for trainer Daniel Bowen after the in-form mare claimed a third straight win at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Danny Bowen was looking to put Tectonic Plate on show for a slot in The Kosciuszko and delivered in spades at Eagle Farm as he looks to launch a two-pronged attack into the rich country race.

The Lismore trainer has enjoyed a golden run with At Witz End throughout the winter carnival, but it was his mare Tectonic Plate that emerged as a contender in the $2 million bush feature in the Open Handicap (1200m) on Saturday.

“She handles any ground, she is a Kosciuszko horse for us,” Bowen said.

“The plan was to win a couple at the end of the carnival to get noticed, so that is the first step today.

“It is a good duo we have, hopefully we can get them in the race.

“You know those mares in form, they’re pretty good.”

Tectonic Plate is $26 for the The Kosciuszko with TAB, while At Witz End is rated a $15 chance.

LANG’S PARK

Apprentice Emily Lang is on the board in town, as she looks to make a permanent move heading into the new season.

Lang is indentured to the Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted stable, but is set to make the move to Tony Gollan at the start of the new season, and was able to upstage her future boss after Millane went under as a odds-on favourite in the Class 6 Plate (1200m) along with Standing Order.

Lang went straight to the front on Hold On Honey and was never headed in a perfectly judged ride to hold off a wall of Gollan challengers.

No jockey has ridden more provincial winners in the country than Lang this season, and she is sure to be a major contender for the coveted apprentice’s title in town next season.

MALONEY ON THE MEND

Wounded premier jockey Ryan Maloney is set to get injections next week in an attempt to make his troublesome knee come good.

Maloney was forced to forgo his rides at Eagle Farm on Saturday due to persistent knee pain following track work at Eagle Farm on Saturday morning.

He confirmed he would get cortisone injections on Monday in an attempt to get him back to the races at Ipswich on Wednesday.

Knee issues are nothing new for the champion jockey, who has undergone Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment in the past, which uses injections of a concentration of a patient’s own platelets to accelerate the healing.

It comes on the back of a golden winter carnival for the hoop, who was able to win the Group 1 Queensland Oaks and Tattersall’s Tiara for champion trainer Ciaron Maher.

Apprentice Cody Collis was also stood down on Saturday suffering the effects of dehydration.
