Tyler Schiller will be sidelined for six weeks after parting company with his mount prior to the opening race at Canterbury Park on Wednesday.
Schiller was aboard the Gary Portelli-trained Rockabye Roxy when the filly bucked going out onto the track, sending Schiller to the turf.
Schiller was conscious, moving his limbs and talking when treated by paramedics, but he was complaining of soreness in his back and was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPA).
All races on the Canterbury card were put back one race due to the delay while waiting for a replacement ambulance. The last race was run at 5pm.

CT scans revealed Schiller had suffered a compression fracture in the core of his T-8 vertebrae which will sideline him for six weeks, putting paid to his Queensland winter carnival aspirations.
It was expected Schiller would be discharged on Wednesday night.
“Hopefully I’ll be home to watch the footy,” Schiller said.
On Saturday at Eagle Farm, Schiller was to partner Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes favourite Gallo Nero, Superalloy in the Group 1 Queensland Derby and Payline in the Group 1 Kingsford Smith Cup.
Replacement riders will now be required.
