Will she or won’t she stand up and be counted? Glamour mare Amelia’s Jewel headlines a great day of racing around Australia on Saturday, highlighted by the Group 1 The Goodwood in Adelaide.

Group 1 racing continues on Saturday, highlighted by the $1 million The Goodwood at Morphettville.

There’s been plenty of talk about the chances of favourite Amelia’s Jewel, and there’s been a mixed response to my prediction that she won’t run a place.

I’ve got nothing against the horse, but we’re in this game to have opinions, and I feel 1200m third-up at a foreign track isn’t a good set-up for her to run a career peak.

When Damian Lane got off her in The Quokka saying she’s a 1400m or 1600m horse, it’s hard to be confident with her over 1200m again — not to mention the toll of travelling interstate.

There are plenty of winning chances, and she has to give them all weight under the set weights and penalties conditions. It’s a monumental task.

If Amelia’s Jewel can break through for her first win in eight months and her second Group 1, she’ll silence her doubters, including myself.

Johnny Rocker ($9) is beautifully weighted with 54.5kg off his last two runs. I’ll have something on him, as well as Stretan Angel around $26.

The Hollindale Stakes headlines racing at the Sunshine Coast and it looks a race in two between Huetor and Kovalica. Both of them love Queensland, and they have a class edge on their rivals.
