RUN OF THE DAY.
Although Winx was the star of the day, I thought the performance of the Godolphin two-year-old colt Telperion had plenty of merit. He was ridden very conservatively early but showed a swift turn of speed on straightening to have them covered quickly. Don’t be surprised if he shapes right up in the Slipper lead-ups.
FORGET THEY RAN
Ex-Hong Kong galloper My Favourite had been nursed back to health after an injury and was resuming after nearly two-and-a-half years off. He seemed to be travelling sweetly in the run but was held up for most of the straight and should have figured in the finish.
THE BLACK BOOK
Hauraki took a long time to come right in the spring but he looked in much better shape first up in the Apollo Stakes and ran a really good race. I’m not sure if he can win a big Group 1 in the autumn but I’m convinced there’s a good win in him.
RIDE OF THE DAY
Testashadow hasn’t been the most trustworthy conveyance in the past but Samantha Clenton has a real love affair happening with him this preparation while her ride on Swivet from a wide barrier was faultless.
