JOCKEY TO FOLLOW
Champion jockey Kerrin McEvoy has winning chances in five of the six races including Sum Invictus (race 1), Moritz Girl (race 3) and Lutetia (race 6).
TRAINER TO FOLLOW
The in-form Annabel Neasham and Rob Archibald stable has some strong winning chances with Sunshine Law (race 2), Fiddlers Green, Mickey’s Medal and Malabar race 3), Autumn Dream and Sweet Proposal (race 4), Zouprince and Imposing Pier (race 6).
INSIDE MAIL
King Of Dragons gets the chance to break his maiden after a frustrating run of near misses. He has been runner-up in three of his four starts this preparation including at Kensington over 1300m course two starts back before another narrow loss on a heavy track at the Gold Coast Magic Millions meeting. Apprentice Braith Nock’s 3kg claim reduces King Of Dragons’ impost to 56kg, he has the speed to put himself into the race early and will be tough to run down. First starter Sum Invictus, by super sire I Am Invincible, is a direct descendant on his dam’s side to champion Triscay and showed good acceleration to win a recent Rosehill barrier trial. Perfect Justice is resuming but dominated from the front in a Canterbury barrier trial two weeks ago. Sensational Wind is the daughter of I Am Invincible and cost $1.1 million at the Inglis Easter Sale two years ago. The filly’s dam, Gust Of Wind, was the last horse to beat all-time great Winx when she won the 2015 ATC Australian Oaks.
Bet: King Of Dragons to win, watch betting moves for Sensational Wind
Hurry Miss, trained by Peter Snowden, has run on well to place at her only two starts including a game first-up effort when unluckily beaten by Autumn Dream at Warwick Farm. Fitter now and although drawn wide, she will be finishing strongly. If Sum Invictus races well in the opener, then it will be worth having something on Chelsea who was a close second to that horse in a Rosehill trial. Chelsea, a first-starter from the Chris Waller stable, was purchased for $1 million as a yearling, is by Written Tycoon and is the second foal out of three-time Group 1 winner Shoals. Sunshine Law has four second placings from her five starts including twice in the metropolitan area, and she looks very hard to beat here. Pink Shalala ran up to win at Kembla Grange first-up before finishing a close third and he will be fitter.
Bet: Hurry Miss each way, saver on Chelsea
I want to give Fiddlers Green another chance. He wasn’t suited by the slow early tempo at Randwick last start and should have finished closer. His previous form was good and this looks a winnable race. Moritz Girl is the danger. She raced on speed and proved too tough for her Highway rivals last start. Fitter for two runs from a spell, she has to be in the finish. Sweysive led all the way to win on a heavy track at Warwick Farm but he’s also effective on top of the ground and races well on this track. Malabar won nicely first-up but then struck a heavy track at Warwick Farm. The blinkers come off and winkers go on to Malabar who deserves another chance.
Bet: Fiddlers Green to win, box trifecta 1,3,5,8
Sly Boots narrowly from Captain Maverick but you can make a compelling case for both. I’m leaning to topweight Sly Boots who is racing in very good form. He won well at Warwick Farm second-up then tried very hard when a half length third at Randwick. Sly Boots is back to midweek grade and is the one to beat. Captain Maverick has been improved by recent racing and finished just behind Sly Boots last start at Randwick. Captain Maverick has won over the Kensington 1800m course and is looking for this trip now. Kirikan finds it hard to win as his record suggests (one win from 21 starts) but his recent form is consistent and he should have finished much closer at Canterbury last start. He’s not out of this race. So Newchee Thinks seems to save her best for wet tracks and appreciated the heavy going to score at Warwick Farm last start. But she is a very consistent mare and will be competitive again.
Bet: Sly Boots to win
Tap ‘N’ Run has never won in seven first-up attempts but there was merit in his recent comeback effort when sixth to Smart Poppy at Wagga. He was working into the race at the top of the straight when he was checked and under 63kg, it was nearly impossible for him to regain his momentum. It’s interesting to note that his second-up record is sound and this is not a strong race. He’s a very generous odds of $15. Dual acceptor Khaznah is second emergency here but if she gets a run then expect her to run well. She tried hard behind an in-form mare when second at Wyong and should be improved by recent racing. Outback Angel won successive races in the bush then ran a game race to beat all but Manuscript at Canterbury. She looks hard to beat. Strombus is on the comeback trail but he excels on this track.
Bet: Tap ‘N’ Run each way, saver on Outback Angel
Bella Khadijah won well at Doomben near the end of last season and then ran a competitive race for third to Zarrose in Sydney Saturday grade before failing in the Tea Rose Stakes. She is resuming but looked in great order winning a recent Rosehill barrier trial. Drawn to get the right run and she should be fighting out the finish. Early favourite Imposing Pier led throughout for a dominant first-up win at Kembla and has drawn the inside gate. Lutetia will make a race of it with Bella Khadijah. Lutetia won brilliantly on debut at Newcastle last winter, beating a handy maiden field, then struck a wet track at Randwick. She resumes a long spell but is trialling well. Luconi is also resuming but goes well fresh and matched motors with Bella Khadijah in that Rosehill barrier trial.
Bet: Bell Khadijah to win, box trifecta 7,9, 11,14
