Tannhauser will be sold win, lose or draw after he contests next week’s Group 1 $1 million Queensland Derby, revealed Newgate Farm supremo Henry Field.
The Chris Waller-trained Tannhauser is challenging for Derby favouritism after his win in the Rough Habit Plate last Saturday but Field confirmed the promising three-year-old is on the open market.
“We have already had three or four interested parties approach us since Tannhauser won last weekend,’’ Field said.
“But the decision has been made to run him in the Derby then regardless of result, he will be up for sale from 5pm that day. We will be attempting to broker a deal as soon as possible.’’
Tannhauser defeated Autumn Angel in the Rough Habit Plate and the pair are the top two in betting for the Queensland Derby (2400m) at Eagle Farm on June 1.
Meanwhile, Field is hopeful Newgate’s promising two-year-old colts Embassy and Volatile, both trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, can secure a two-state double on Saturday.
Embassy contests the $1 million Magic Millions National 2yo Classic (1050m) at Doomben and Volatile lines up in the Sporting Chance Foundation Handicap (1200m) at Royal Randwick.
Field said Embassy, who has been stakes-placed in two of his three starts, is held in high regard by the Snowden stable.
“We like Embassy a lot, we feel he is a genuine Group horse,’’ Field said.
“He had a decent break before his first-up run (second in the Listed Dalrello Stakes), he’s trained on well and Blake Shinn will ride him on Saturday.
“Volatile has shown ability earlier in the season with his third in the Golden Gift and it was obvious he didn’t appreciate the heavy track first-up on the Sunshine Coast.
“But it’s ‘D-Day’ for Volatile at Randwick, we want to see a much improved effort from him.’’
