Master two-year-old trainers Peter and Paul Snowden already imposing juvenile hand could be further enhanced when promising youngsters Fearless, King Of Roseau and Wave Breaker test their autumn credentials at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday.

The Snowdens have the Blue Diamond favourite High Octane and unbeaten colt Bodyguard in their armoury but will look to lay down a Sydney marker in the first two official Golden Slipper lead-ups.

Returning colt Fearless ($4.60) and battle-hardened galloper King Of Roseau ($7) will go head-to-head in the Group 3 Canonbury Stakes (1100m) while unraced filly Wave Breaker will be tested for the first time in the Group 3 Widden Stakes (1100m).

Both colts have the benefit of race experience with Fearless featuring in the Group 3 Breeders’ Plate back in September where the colt finished on the placegetters’ heels in fourth.

The son of Pierata has won both of his trials in the lead up to his return and his second hitout will give a guide on what to expect from Fearless this weekend.

“He will be ridden a bit conservative,” Paul Snowden said.

“In the first trial he was up on speed and was doing a little bit too much with himself but relaxed well but hit the line extremely well in his latest trial so will be ridden accordingly.

“He is a lovely horse.

“He did a lot of things wrong (in his debut) and he still ran quiet well so I am looking forward to seeing what he can do.”

King Of Roseau will be rock-hard fit after having both of his two career starts this preparation.

A son of the Snowdens’ former Golden Slipper hero Capitalist, King Of Roseau won on debut at Canberra before finishing best of the rest behind speedy pacesetter Fully Lit over 1100m at Rosehill last time.

“King Of Roseau has done nothing wrong,” Snowden said.

“He battled well the other day and was dictated to by other horses on speed that quickened very quickly.

“He was left a little bit flat footed but was very front on the line. He is a tough horse that continues to do well.

“He is pretty forward King Of Roseau and he has a bit of class so that will take him a long way.”

Wave Breaker ($15) is more of an unknown quantity.

She is yet to have a race start but has looked good in her two trials this preparation, including finishing a close third to stablemate Fearless over 1050m on January 22.

“She has trialled nicely but the next step is the raceday,” Snowden said.

“It is a stakes level race, that’s the only difference, we are resuming in a race with a pretty talented field.

“But she deserves to get to that sort of race and level, she has trialled well enough to be competitive so hopefully she can run well.

“They have to put their hand up. Trials are one thing but raceday pressure is totally different. She is ready to be put under that and she will run well.”

The Snowdens have sent Counteroffensive to Melbourne rather than tackling the Canonbury.

Counteroffensive finished third in a Warwick Farm maiden back in October and will make his return in the Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes (1000m) at Caulfield.

Blake Shinn has been tasked with piloting the Deep Field colt from the outside in a field of seven.

“Barrier seven of seven is fine,” Snowden said.

“He is an on-speed runner and will go forward and more than likely lead.

“He likes to be in that role and when he trialled here, he ran very slick time that last section.

“Before Christmas he had a run and all these little things can go with you a little bit more this time of year rather than coming into the first racing prep and you’re thrown in the deep end.

“He knows what he is there to do and Blake will suit the horse.”

Counteroffensive could put himself in the conversation for a crack at the Group 1 Blue Diamond if he runs well on Saturday.

The Snowdens have the $4.50 favourite for the race with High Octane while unbeaten colt Bodyguard will join the southern brigade next week.

“Bodyguard is great,” Snowden said.

“He goes to Melbourne for the Blue Diamond Prelude on Saturday week with Mark Zahra riding him.

“Blake Shinn will ride High Octane and Jye McNeil will be on Holmes A Court.

“Possibly if Counteroffensive runs well on Saturday, he could marry into the Blue Diamond on the back of that.”
