The Magic Millions 2YO Classic betting market has been thrown wide open after the scratching of joint favourite Straight Charge.

Trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott have advised stewards their colt has suffered an elevated temperature which requires treatment, meaning he will be unable to make the trip north to the Gold Coast.

The colt set tongues wagging after his dominant win in Sydney a fortnight ago, which headed up a two-pronged attack on the $3m race for Tulloch Lodge, who now have the solo race favourite Storm Boy as a dominant $2.50 chance.

Wyong Magic Millions winner Highness is on the second line of betting at $6.

Not only does Straight Charge’s scratching throw the market wide open, it gives other horses a chance at the lucrative $500,000 Women In Racing Bonus.

Straight Charge was owned by Yulong tycoon Yuesheng Zhang’s wife and raced with a pink cap.

Tim Clark was slated to ride Straight Charge on January 13.

The scratching has seen a number of market movers, with impressive Godolphin winner Parkour tightening from $8 into $7 and Spywire the big firmer from $11 into $7 with TAB.
