In-form jockey Beau Mertens has been taken to hospital after a fall at Tuesday’s Stony Creek meeting.
Mertens fell from the $1.60 favourite and debutant Nobiallo during the running of the San Remo Hotel 3YO Maiden Plate (1000m) in an accident that also involved Thomas Stockdale and his mount Just Bolts.
The Victorian Jockeys’ Association reported Mertens was conscious and moving all limbs when taken to a nearby hospital for observation of a possible concussion.
Stockdale walked back to the jockeys’ room after the fall.
Mertens won last Saturday’s Group 3 Geoffrey Bellmaine Stakes (1200m) on Vagrant as part of a winning double at Caulfield.
It has been reported that Nobiallo, a son of Dundeel out of Group 1-winning mare Griante, was sadly humanely euthanased.
