Having a runner in the Melbourne Cup? Priceless.
Well, not anymore.
Bucket list bidders from all over the country have less than 48 hours to ensure their vested interest in Australia’s most famous race ex10ds well beyond a ticket in the office sweep.
For only the second time since Archer’s pre-Super Highway win in 1961, a share in one of the select few confirmed 24 starters in next month’s Melbourne Cup can be bought with the tap of the keyboard.
The horse is Future History, who is rated a $26 chance to win the Cup.
Future History – or 10 per cent, of him to be precise – is the star lot at the Inglis Online Digital October sale.

• Jockey bookings: McDonald, Zahra and plenty more for Cox Plate
“People have been offering shares through the platform for quite some time but as far as I can recollect this is the first time that we have ever had a share in a horse offered through the sale that is qualified for the Melbourne Cup effectively less than three weeks before the race,” Inglis’ Sebastian Hutch said.
“It is a fairly unique opportunity given the appetite that people have to be involved in a race like that.
“We had a 25 per cent share in Mustajeer offered when he was qualified for the Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup having won the Ebor so it obviously sold for a lot of money ($320,000).
“We had a five per cent share in Private Eye sell (for $60,000) a little over 12 months ago and obviously that horse has been a revelation since.”

The larger slice of Mustajeer was secured by prominent owner/breeder Richard Pegum but there is every chance Future History’s new connections will be made up more of butchers, bakers and candlestick makers rather than merchant bankers.
“We have had instances when people have formed syndicates to buy a share in a horse. That happens frequently anyway and I am sure that that is a possibility in this instance,” Hutch says.
“There are any number of variables in play and it is just exciting to have the opportunity to offer it.
• UK trainer eyes Melbourne Cup week with West Wind Blows
“It is very sporting of the owner and hopefully the horse can go and run a good race.
“On the evidence of his run in the Bart Cummings the other day, the horse is in fine form. He is obviously with the training partnership that won the race last year.
“There is a lot to be positive with about the horse.”
The 10 per cent share in Future History was sitting on $80,000 on Monday afternoon with the final amount likely to be known around noon on Wednesday.
