Star jockey Jamie Kah might have already found her Melbourne Cup ride.

Kah will continue the chase for her first Melbourne Cup in November with the South Australian-born jockey weighing up riding a runner from her home town in Australia’s greatest race.

Kah knew there was a long way to go until the first Tuesday in November but said she would jump at the chance to partner with old friends, trainers Dan Clarken and Oopy MacGillivray, aboard The Map in the Melbourne Cup.

The Map is guaranteed a Melbourne Cup start after the five-year-old won the $500,000 Andrew Ramsden (2800m) with Damian Lane in the saddle at Flemington last month.

“Nothing is locked in but I’m so excited The Map has got in,” Kah said.

“I think she’s a massive chance and I’m so excited she got in because Dan and Oopy are amazing people.

“It’s probably going to be my ride if I want it and I definitely want to ride her.”

The Map had success at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day last year after Kah rode the mare to her easy win at Benchmark 96 level.

The Map has won her past two starts in Melbourne.

Kah said the smart stayer thrived on racing against better horses in Melbourne and noted The Map was unlucky when narrowly beaten over 3200m in the Group 2 Adelaide Cup in March.

Gilbert Gardiner’s Monday Racebook: ‘Has he got out yet?’

“She’s not a superstar horse but she’s done everything she had to,” Kah said.

“She will stay all day and I think she improves when she comes to Flemington and gets around better horses.

“The Adelaide Cup was a messy race for her.

“She needs to follow decent horses.”

TAB rated The Map at $18 in its long-range Melbourne Cup market, on the same line as last Saturday’s dominant Queensland Derby winner Warmonger.

Impressive Sydney Cup winner Circle Of Fire is the $11 favourite to win the Melbourne Cup five months out from the event.
