Interpretation has failed to finish the 2022 Melbourne Cup.

Three other horses walked across the finishing line, finishing a long way behind winner Gold Trip after being pulled up by their jockeys.

Camorra, Serpentine and Numerian walked over the line of the 3200m race.

Numerian was listed as finishing 73 lengths behind the winner with both Camorra and Serpentine 99 lengths behind.

Camorra jockey Ben Melham said his horse was fine, just pulled up due to not handling the conditions.

Interpretation jockey Craig Newitt was frank in his assessment of the horse in the aftermath of the race: “He’s not right, that horse.”

The Ciaron Maher and David Estace trained horse underwent a vet inspection on Tuesday morning after he was discovered to be lame in the near fore and off hind on Monday.

“He just had a nail in the wrong spot and we took the shoe off and addressed the problem. It is back on now and looks fine. It is up to what they think in the morning,” Maher said.

Interpretation was passed fit to start in the Cup on Tuesday.

Video showed Interpretation being walked back through the mounting yard after being pulled up and looking fine.

“We’re hearing that Interpretation, who was eased out of the race early, has pulled up OK and they will obviously be testing the horse to see that he is fine to continue on, but came back into the mounting yard and walked down to the stripping sheds OK as well,” a channel 10 commentator said following the race.
